IN APPRECIATION Time has gone by very quickly. It seems that it was only yesterday that a group of wide-eyed and anxious seventh graders walked into the old Oak Street School. Perhaps those who were more anxious and, perhaps even a little nervous, were the teachers; those who appear most confident at all times. Since the Oak Street days, our high school faculty has grown to an amazing number of 40. They came to school rain or shine. They put up with our grim faces and our “major” problems. Besides a well rounded knowledge of “leadin’, writin’, and ’rithmetic,” they have tried to prepare us for the problems that are waiting for us out in a hard new world. Our teachers are dedicated people. They have put their whole hearts into their profession. A teacher once said, “My classroom is my kingdom.” He said, “I insist that the classroom is my province, so long as my competency is acceptable, I am the expert in the classroom.” Here is the dignity that our teachers possess—human dignity, along with professional pride. We, the Class of ’61, may never be able to repay you, but your talents and shining faces will always be remembered. Thank you all, so very much. 19
