IRIHUH HISIURH The original idea for the school ann al came from the C'1ass of 1955. They chose the IDENT, as the name for this book. This name comes from a Roman myth in which the god of the sea, Neptune, was always shown holding in his hand a symbol called a trident. Due to some difficulties they were unable to complete the annua1f The Class of 1954 published the first TRIDENT. The Class of 1938 was prevented in realizing its ambition to publish this book. The TRIDENT was published by the Class of '59 and '40 but in 1941 the war and the difficulty in getting materials made it impos- sible for this class to publish its edition of the TRIDENT. The annual was not published again until 1946. The Classes of '47, '48, and '49 kept up the good work and we are trying to .live up to their good record. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who helped us di- rectly of indirectly to make this year's TRIDENT. We hope that all who read this collection of thoughts, words and memories enjoy it to the full- est extent.
