Good Things Come Kellie struggles through the morning announcements to begin another typical dayatN.H.S. (left) Jacqui, Stacy, and Michelle eat lunch and discuss the daily news during lunch hour. 2 in Small Packages Neponset High School may be one of the smallest high schools in the state of Illinois, but its administration, staff, and students feel that a good educational climate is provided through the school. Although small, the school provides a wide range of courses where the students can benefit through small class enrollments. With an enrollment of forty-six, students have every opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities, thereby enhancing their education. With a good student body and a good staff, there has been an increase in pride in the school and the accomplishments of its students. Thus, if good things come in small packages, Neponset High School certainly fits that category. During a school assembly, Mr. Wilbur Blake. Kellie Monroe, and Mrs. Mildred Golby watch as Ben and Adam Pratt raise the flag that Mrs. Golby gave to the school in honor of her late husband, Leo Golby. Paul tries to dribble his way out of the LaMoille defense. Karen drives in for another two points for the Lady Zephyrs during the Brimfield Tournament. 3 Scott Hansen shows his jumping ability as he chalks up another rebound for the Zephyrs. Students Participate in a Variety of Kellie Monroe and Brian Logsdon, who would later battle it out for the Student Council Presidency, show off some of the “old stuff” they found at the Student Council yard sale Cheering the Zephyrs on to another winning season, are the Neponset Cheerleaders 4 Happenings at N.H.S. Marla and Stacy get ready to scare all those brave enough to enter, at the first annual FHA Haunted House. These students seem to be enjoying the music provided by Neponset High's DJ's, Brian Shores and Mike Bates. Getting these N.H.S. students near the stage brings out their true colors. 5 Dedication We, the Annual Staff of 1987, wish to dedicate this fortieth volume of the Zephyr to Dr. Linda Gustafson. Before coming to N.H.S., Mrs. Gustafson earned her bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Maryland. From 1970 to 1980, she taught at Columbia, MD and at Dixon, IL from 1980 to 1984. She also has many society memberships and additional valuable experiences. In her two short years at N.H.S., Mrs. Gustafson has worked very hard with the student body. She has especially worked hard with the seniors helping each of them choose the right college with all possible scholarships. Some of her duties at N.H.S. include Freshman class sponsor, Student Council sponsor, teaching the computer math class, transportation director, as well as being principal. She has kept very busy planning activities including gifts for the Senior Citizens, dances, bringing back the homecoming bonfire and parade, and most of all, the National Honor Society. She also has brought recognition to those who deserve it. Along with the important things, Mrs. Gustafson has brought to N.H.S. enthusiasm, pride, and an aquarium complete with goldfish. We would also like to thank and recognize Mrs. Gustafson for her unending support and dedication to Neponset High School and its students.
