Smm (Ham Hittow All aboard! On August 28, 1961, twenty-two young, eager-looking passengers boarded the Zephyr to begin a long, exciting journey. Our conductor for the first lap of our trip was Brad Currier. We were dressed differently than the usual passengers with the boys wearing their mother’s bathing suits and the girls dressed like their fathers. We observed Valentine's Day by giving a special Valentine's Party. We invited the passengers from the other three cars and the party was a big success. The train stopped to refuel and to pick up a fresh engineer--Mrs. Heavner left and Mrs. Pollpeter boarded. Two passengers disembarked--Betty Carlson and Richard Mahler. After a short layover, the passengers reboarded the train and a new passenger joined us, Denny Berry. We were in a different car and the conductor for this part of the trip was Carol Verbout. She helped us plan another party--the Homecoming dance which we called Autumn Serenade”. This was our first really big party, and everyone in our car helped with the decorations. We made a short stop during the middle of this part of our trip to pick up some more passengers. They were Margot Taylor, Sherry Williamson, and Donna Dickey. After we had completed half our journey, we had to stop to have the train overhauled and Larry Evans got off. While this was being done, we were free to go swimming, to the movies, and all the other things people do in the summer. When we reboarded the train, we had a new conductor, Kathy Berry. We had two engineers for this part of the trip because this was going to be a very busy time for us. They were Mrs. Gerrond and Mrs. Pollpeter. We made a brief stop in Princeton to pick up our new class rings at Jostens. We were the first class at N. H. S. ever to choose round class rings, and we were very proud of them. To boost the spirits at all the athletic events, a marching band was organized--the first in N. H. S. history. About half the passengers in car three participated. We were also very busy making money for the most exciting social event of the year--the Junior-Senior Prom. The train stopped in Peoria and the passengers in cars 3 and 4 and their guests were all invited to the Pe're Marquette for dining and dancing. The theme of the prom was Moment de Souvenir ( Moments to Remember ). The Zephyr stopped for the last time to change engineers, Pam Rakestraw, and to give us a chance to rest up before the final lap of our journey. Our new engineer was Mrs. Kidd and our conductor, Marilyn Stabler. This was the busiest and fastest part of the trip so far. We had our senior pictures taken, ordered our graduation announcements, attended prom, went to Chicago on our class trip, and went to Baccalaureate services. Finally, on the evening of May 28, 1965, the Zephyr reached its destination, ending one of our many train rides through life. Kathy Berry Brad Currier Cheri Luther Sherry Williamson Semi Cku Mill We, the Senior Class of 1965, being of sound mind and body, do make, declare, and publish this to be our last will and testament.
