History of the Class of 1962 On September 1st, in the year nineteen hundred fifty, twenty-six wide-eyed little girls and boys were waiting to be greeted by Miss Lewis. Diana Dana, Lee Bennett, Rose Marie Golby, Lois Miller, Virginia Miller, Lee Stabler, John Verbout, and Jim Thorp have been with the class for twelve years. Due to the large number in the second grade, our class was divided. Mrs. Mock and Miss Lewis were our teachers. James Homback, Fredrick Mahler, Deana Tankersly, Kateena Tankersly, Jeannie Lath-rop, and Robert Ogburn joined us. We lost Janice Foltz. Mrs. Mock instructed us in the third grade. Here we lost Grant Miles, Jeannie Lathrop, La Verne Bennett, and Lawrence Bartman. Harold and Alvey Pevy joined us for a short time. Mrs. Gould guided us through the fourth grade. Dorothy Daniels, Charles Hansen, Betty Low, Robert Ogbum, Harold and Alvey Pevy, and Linda Swearingen dropped from the roll. Veronica Larimer, Vicky Morris, and Barbara Burcham transferred to our school. This gave us a class enrollment of seventeen. During the fifth grade, Veronica Larimer and Connie Stabler moved away. Mrs. Gerrond and Mr. Slocum were our teachers. Sharon Hollis and Susan Pletkovich entered our class in sixth grade. Mrs. Berry was our home room teacher. In the seventh grade we became very popular and added Mary Lou Boehne, Clarence Rednour, James Evans, Connie Stabler, and Melanie Holmes. We were sorry to lose Tommy Willhite and Sharon Hollis. Mrs. Whaples was our teacher. Then on the 28th of May, 1958, we were ready to leave Grade School and Miss Golby, who had been our eighth grade teacher. We looked back on many good memories, but we were looking forward to even more. In 1958, we timidly entered High School as freshies. We all survived the initiation, even the sack dresses furnished by the Purina Feed Company and the feminine apparel worn by the boys. Mrs. Ches-nutt, Mrs. Culp, and Miss McKie were our sponsors. Our president was Barbara Burcham. James Evans and Mary Lou Boehne left us. After a quick summer we went back as sophomores. This year, Mrs. Chesnutt and Mr. Seymour were our sponsors. Our president was Connie Stabler. We decorated the gym for Homecoming with the theme Deep Sea Paradise. Judy Jefferies and Amie Cordrey, who had joined us at the beginning of our Freshman year, now left us at the end of our sophomore year. Now another summer had gone by and this one was even shorter. We had the same sponsors as before, but our president was Phyllis Hepner. She did a good job organizing the Prom, which was our big event of the year. Bob Ver Heecke joined us in March. Finally our senior year, which we thought would never come, crept upon us. All of a sudden we became very busy with many activities. We had Mr. Luther to guide us and Bob Ver Heecke, our president, helped him. This year we worked hard to make money for our annual and our class trip. All of our projects were successful. Our Senior Class Play was The Inner Willy. It was a lot of work and fun and we wish to thank Mrs. Gerrond, our director. There were just the last few weeks of school left, with graduation invitations to be addressed, caps, gowns, finals, Baccalaureate, and then the big night--Commencement. We realized we were through and it was all over except for the memories. We wish to thank everyone for twelve successful years in the Neponset schools. 11
