The Freshmen Picnic started the success of the Girl’s Athletic Association this year with the usual outdoorsy foods at Mattoon Beach. Year officers, President Linda Baker, Vice President Carol Whitaker, Sec.-Treas. Jean Parker, Points Chairman Kay Fearday, Reporter Rita Kelsheimer and Student Council Repre- sentative Sue Pardieck efficiently organized the Fall Playday-Neoga, the host. G.A.A. Jungle was the theme for the play day with seven schools present. Our annual sport, archery got started with Betty Meyers in charge. Carol Whitaker’s archery team won the Junior Columbia Round tournament. Pat (Russell) Briggerman was sporthead for a new activity of stunts and tumbling. A few sore muscles-though the girls had fun on the tumbling mats and the trampoline. Old favorite, bowling, came next. Jan Haskett, sporthead, was kept busy figuring individual and team averages. Kay Fearday was top bowler and Jean Parker, second, as they had a close duel until the last bowling session. Kathleen Brown’s bowling team was first in G.A.A. Ten girls bowled in the state tournament. Basketball followed bowling with A r del la Saunders in charge. At the end of the activity, Kay Fearday’s team had won again for the second straight year with a perfect record, six wins-no losses. Fifteen girls participated in the State Basketball Tournament. The year’s sport activities ended with swimming; Jane McIntyre, the sporthead. A lot of wet and hungry girls journeyed home often from the Effingham indoor pool. SEATED; S. Pardieck, Secretary.
