Voris, Unit Superintendent fidftUMAtiQjUotl Few people, when they hear the term, administration, think of more than the glory that really so seldom goes with the title. Try this little calculation when you would gripe rather than praise: Add: the number of times you have seen the conference room light on until 1 A.M. the number of times you have seen the gray Buick fire out of the parking lot on a call. the number of phone calls from parents wondering if that snowstorm means no school today. Then you have only a small idea of the fall- out of worries these people overcome. THE UNIT THREE BOARD OF EDUCATION--Mr. Roy Morgan, Mr. William Coen, Board President Wilbur Fearday; Mr. Herald Crockett, Mr. Aubrey Storm, Mr. Glenn Albin, Mrs. Katherine Hallett. 4 Mrs. Greeson, I’m late to class. Could I get a pass to ag?” “I know this is late, Mr. White, but could you make this announcement for us?” “Mr. Manuell, where could I find a summer job?” Then, there are the emergencies, such as broken zippers, rips, etc., and will mother or dad hurry out with a replacement? The final admonition invariably. is, ‘Til watch for you and meet you out in front.” “Has anyone turned in mychembook?” It isn’t that we intend to eavesdrop, but we can’t help but hear, and it is true that each day the telephone reveals something of interest in divulging the students’ problems. But, there are no complaints, for we ARE here to help. KNOW WHEREOF YOU STIR Our blackhaired beauty across the way must be watching something else besides the mixing bowl. Could she perhaps be viewing Mr. Louthan's spec- tacular hula performance? Or, maybe she hears the doorbell -- a fellow FHA’er making calls for the clothes drive. Could be, girl X, that the smoke in the background emanates from the other cake in the oven. . Homemakingclasses this year went figuratively around the world. This theme was borne out by monthly reverse visits. Since Mohammed couldn't go to the mountain, the girls brought the countries to Neoga. Japan, Africa, South America, Israel, India, China, Ireland, Italy, and Chile made the trip unscathed and better known by all the batter beaters. By the way, Dad will still take out the garbage. THEY WEREN’T ALL THAT BAD If student X seems not to be having the best relations between hammer and finger, perhaps he was not listening when Mr. Wagner explained the nature of this delicate operation. We’ll bet, though, studentX has learned some- thingabout the F.F.A. organization this year, as the boys have been taking on many responsibilities to prove they are a thinking—as well as doing—organ- ization. Land judging, speaking contests, scrap drives, awards competition, democratic meetings—All these have shown the F.F.A. members farming is more than driving a tractor. Thanks for the incinerator, boys. SECOND Kroft, Patsy Stilabower, Rollings, Carolyn Cooper, Janice Walk, Carol Knie- WITH AN EXTRA GRUNT, MAYBE A STRIKE FOR WHOM THE WHISTLE BLOWS Watch me get a bull’s eye! This was a familiar and frequently correct statement heard by the G.A.A. archers last fall. In October, ten G.A.A. girls traveled to Cumberland High School for a dual archery meet. The shooting was done from twenty and thirty yard ranges. Our girls came out over rival Cumberland. Other sports that girls participated in during the year were: Bowling in Mattoon at The Etog Lanes with Janice Walk in charge. Dianna O’Dell was year’s top bowler. Basketball was the winter sport, as the senior G.A.A. girls won the intramural tournament. Edna Parker was sporthead. Carol Greeson was in charge of season play in volleyball and tournament play. Softball was the spring sport. Weather sometimes hindered playing outside, but sporthead Carolyn Marshall brought the girls inside (good thinking, Carolyn), for softball in the gym: It was easier to hit runs that way. Special events of the year included a Fall Playnight. G.A.A. girls brought their dates (willingly?) and played team games in the gym. Selected girls entered the all-state postal archery, bowling, and basketball shooting contests. BEATNIK MELODIES was the theme for a G.A.A. playday, held in April, with the Neoga girls as hostesses. The Mother-Daughter Banquet honored award winners, initiated members, newly elected officers, and sportsheads on May 9, to end this enjoyable and successful year. Janice Walk and Edna Parker were elected to represent Neoga and bring back new ideas from the G.A.A. Camp, held this summer at East Bay, Bloomington. 35 JLtflmnmi did FIRST ROW: Tom Walk, Coach Greene, Merle Elson, Wes Parker, Don Brown, Coach Herr, Steve Bahney. HOSE AND SCOREBOARD Not all these men’s time is taken up by the hilarious activities as shown at the right. It’s an honor to be able to participate in sports at Neoga, but more an honor to be a member of the “N” Club. The new scoreboard owes its existence to this organization which sponsored the Harlem Magicians vs. Area All Stars exhibition game. 36 For the initiates, pie in the eye. Photography alone is a great headache. But, with this year’s staff, we did, through some late evening sessions, manage to almost make the deadline. We were lucky this year inhavingsome excellent art work put forth by Larry Hanfland, who worked on many of the illustra- tions. Steve Bahney seemed always to be on the scene when it came to photography, accounting for someofthesplit-secondaction shots in the TOMAHAWK.
