TOMAHAWK - gg For the first time in many moons, the word Township is being dropped from the name of our school, this change resulted from the organization of the Neoga Community Unit School District near the close of last school year. Henceforth the high school will carry the label Neoga High School with the Township being omitted. The Neoga Unit School District No. 3 was organized in May 1948 and comprised territories in Cumberland, Coles, and Shelby Counties. The Unit was formed by an overwhelming vote in. both rural and urban territories. Soon after the organization of the unit district, the following men were elected to the Board of Education: Carl Wilson, Robert Wool- ery, W. E. Ellis, Maurice Walk, W. D. White, Richard Peters, and E. R. Brown, with Mr. Wilson serving as the President and Mr. Woolery as Secretary. In September of this school year Mr. Brown resigned as member due to transfer of his work. His vacancy was filled by Clay- ton Doll of Trowbridge. Hard work on the part of these board members, together with the co-operation of the patrons in the Unit District, has enabled the Unit to realize an improvement in education, transporta- tion, administration, and health of the pupils enrolled. On March 6, the newest building of the unit at Pioneer Attendance Center, was officially dedicated with an appropriate program and an attendance of nearly one thousand. At the present time one high school is in operation in the Unit, and elementary attendance centers at Etna, Trowbridge, Neoga Grade, Pioneer Con Route No. 1213, West Union and Lone Elm. Thirty teachers comprise the teaching personnel of the Unit and have met on numerous occasions during the year for study to aid in self- improvement. Eight buses are owned by the Unit and are driven by drivers who have been examined by the State Department to determine their qual- ifications as to health and experience in driving. The people have accepted the Unit as an organization which poten- tially, can greatly improve and equalize the education of youth in this community. Neoga High School
