W This year, more than last, we began to get acquainted with our new principal, Mr. Harold B. Mennes. During the 1944-1945 session we had no real introduction to him and hardly knew more about him than that he was our new principal. Now we recognize him as a man of determination and perseverance, a man who likes to get things done, a man who we can be proud to say is our principal. He has shown a remarkable sense of duty in managing the affairs of the school. By his advising and helping the students so capably and so ably working with and guiding the faculty, we have all come to recognize his fine leadership. Mr. Mennes has had a very illustrious record in the educational field. When he graduated from St. Olaf he re- ceived a bachelor degree with a major in chemistry. Then, after studying at the University of Wisconsin, he received his master's degree in education. In addition to those de- grees, Mr. iMennes has studied at the University of Cam- bridge in London, and Columbia University in New York City, and has completed his residence work at the Uni- versity of Wisconsin for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. During the past year and a half, not only we have en- joyed working with Mr. Mennes, but he too, has expressed his joy in working with the students and faculty of Neenah High School. Principal Harold B. Mennes As guidance adviser, MR. CUMMINGS assumes charge of both the educational and vocational guidance programs. Regarding his work with educational guidance, he helps the students plan their courses so as to prepare them for the field that they will enter after high school graduation. He also gives aptitude tests to the seniors and freshmen. He serves in the vocational capacity by keeping the occupational files of the school. These files are used in various ways: for students to use in selecting a profession, and for the Civics and Social Problems classes in the preparation of vocational notebooks. During the month of March, Mr. Cummings made a trip to New York City and Philadelphia to do research on guidance for the board of educatior. Besides his guidance work, Mr. Cummings teaches two geometry classes. MISS PETERS, as dean of girls, devotes her time to helping them with their personal problems. She serves in many ways: she visits their homes, confers with their parents, finds homes for girls who live out of town and want to work near the school, checks their attendance, and in general does various jobs for them. If they are sick during school hours, Miss Peters gives them first aid and takes care of them. Miss Peters manages the cafeteria in addition to her duties as dean of girls. MR. CHRISTOPH serves as dean of boys, general science teacher, and director of the hall monitors. His duties as dean include checking make-up cards and attendance records, issuing permits for students to be excused from school, helping some students to form a work schedule, and giving assistance to the freshmen boys and other new students in making their adjustments to Neenah High School.
