THE PHILOMATI-IEA SCCIETY ln I925 a few active tudents formed what is now called the Philo mathea society At this time there were twenty three charter members Today there are thirty act-ve members The purpose of the organization is to create a more fraternal feeling among the students to promote literary work and to give competition day of each month during the year. Talks debates mock trials plays and stunts were given The officers for this year were: Kenneth Kitchen grand councilor' Laura Fahrenkrug vice councilor' and Jeanette Bessex scribe and quester. Mr. ohn Holzman acted as faculty advisor for the society. The Philomatheans were slow in getting started this year but later picked up and at the erd of the y. ar were traveling at top speed. Severe competition was given to the Forensics. ln the contest for the cup the Philomatheans presented the play The Fourteenth Hour. This was very successful and lost to the Forensics only by a narrrow margin. They will probably take part in two other contests after this goes to press and are striving to become ever victoriouS over the Forenscis. Page Twenty-Si! . H to the Forensics. THE FCREN SIC SOCIETY The Forensic Society was organized m 1925 under the leadership of Miss Blanche Buck This year has been an exceptionally busy one for the society both in were held twice a month a business meeting was usually followed by an interesting program The socletv also held two matinee dances during the year The officers for the first semester were Ruth Sawyer president and Alfred Reetz secretary treasurer New officers elected for the s cond semester were as follows Beryl Watts president Mane Fuechsel vice president and Ruth Sawyer secretary treasurer The faculty ad visor for the society was Miss lrene Espeseth The Forensics held several contests with the Philomatheans during the year They won the first of these by their presentation on April I8 of the play The Cousin from Coon Ridge This was to be followed by a mock trial and some type of speaking contest The winner of the majority of these conte ts received a silver lovmg cup The Forensics planned to conclude the season with a picnic - - I Page Twenty Seven I I Q ,.
