FOOTBALL SEASON The football season of 1926 was falrly successful for Neenah Hugh result mg in three wms and four defeats On September 7 the Hl'St call was sounded by Coach Ole orgensen xt was answered by several veterans from last season namely G Smlth G Malouf Hauser H Neubauer A lhde and E Tyrlver Many other mem bers of the squad last year were workmg hard for posxtlons left vacant by graduates Neenah hugh opened lts season on September 25 by playing the alumni team at the Green The game was hard fought wlth the old grads finally wmnmg by the score of 6 to 0 Coach used many subs and the game brought out the weak polnts which had to be corrected On October 2 the team met ltS flrst hlgh school rlval Ripon high school The backfleld was faster the lme was more effectxve ln both OHCIISIVC and defensive work The two teams battled to a scoreless t1e during most of the game but Neenah fmally blocked a punt and a llttle later scored the wmnmg touchdown Neenah had a score of 7 and Ripon 0 Neenah met Kaukauna here on the followmg Saturdav The reds played a plucky game but the fa t Electrxc Clty outfit was too fast for theem Nee nah lost the game 21 to 0 but dxd not lose nts fight smnlle or courage On Octooer I6 the Neenah team traveled to Two RIVCYS and met its thlrd and this wlth many co tly breaks gave Two Rlvers the vlctory On the followmg Saturday St Peter s hugh school of Oshkosh journeyed here for a game The game started wlth a mayorlty of second team men ln Neenah s lmeup Coach drd not know the strength of the St Peter s team and was surprlsed when thcy made a touchdown and a goal ofter the touch down Just after the game had started Neenah could not overcome the lead and lost 7 to 6 The muddy condxtlon of the field clearly showed the need of a new Held On October 30 the Reds journeyed to Neew London and won a hard fought game I2 to 6 Neenah lo t and won the game m the last few mmutes It was the kmd of game m whlch both teams really thmk they won New Lon don tied the score with about two mmutes to play Neenah kicked oft and succeeded ln making another touchdown to wm the game before the final whlstle blew For the fifteenth consecutlve time Neenah conov ered their old rlval M n asha on Saturday November I6 Menasha outplayed the locals ln the flrst period and almo f scored a touchdown ln the econd h lf Neenah com pletely outolayed Nlenasha Shortly after the thlrd perlod began Neenah advanced the ball to the 30 yard llne and Schneller made a dropklck l the la t quarter Neenah scored a safety after Menasha s center had made a wild pass Neenah was ln possession of the ball and were ln the shadow of the goal as the game the greatest of all Neenah Menasha gridiron battles ended and the cu Lam was pulled down on our grldlron battles untxl next season Sxxteen QL 4 ' ,ki , , , W, W --- - ' I .
