It’s truly been an exper- ience I’ll never forget, and I’m glad 1 didn’t pass up the chance. I did have help from the ten journalism students and advisor, Mrs. Tyler. Together, we brought you this year- book that I hope you enjoy looking through as much as we’ve enjoyed putting together. Sincerely, LaVonda Griffin Editor LI Celebrate! Out Out of the Ordinary Celebration! Put the two together. What a collaboration! That's exactly what we had Here at NHS, For we are the Tigers — The mighty, the best! ... a celebration of laughter. Of friendship and tears — Of memories being made To seek in later years. Extraordinary success. On the ball court and field Brought that proud feeling Only triumph can build. 11 the Ordinary It seemed this was the year That we had it all. The year turned out great. And we had a ball! Now we look back On the times that were shared; Look back on the classes Where for life we prepared. These times seem so close. But yet they are gone. Of course in our minds As our memories They forever live on. Rodney Dunlap 11 “Seniors 1988! What can I say? I can re- call as it were yesterday that sunny day in fall of '82 when I was assigned to your class as co-sponsor. I remember looking you over, sizing you up and thinking, six years with these CHILDREN! Well, it was a great six years. I was the lucky one. As you grew, I grew with you. As you learned, so did 1. I worked side by side with each of you and it was a task, but one I enjoyed. We shared the bad times as well as the good. Many of you came to me throughout the years needing a friend as well as an advisor. I hope I helped. To say you are special is an understate- ment. To tell you I have enjoyed working with you is lacking. To wish you the best and hope you have all you ever need is not enough. Words cannot express my hopes and aspirations for you — because words are just that — words. Now as I look you over and size you up 1 think, six years!! I've spent six years with these young adults. No regrets!” Myra Peters I would like to take this opportunity to thank this Senior class for being so cooperative. Those who accepted the responsibility of working in our fundraisers, on the prom, and unselfishly gave their time, I especially appreciate. I've grown especially close to a few of these seniors through athletics, especially baseball. You will be espe- cially missed. I have come to depend on you and it will be very hard to replace that feeling. I want to send a special thanks to you. Seniors, whatever you do in the future, please make us as proud as you have in the past. Remember, our thoughts are with you. Best wishes!” Bill Alexander Bill Alexander 1988 Senior sponsor Myra Peters 1988 Senior sponsor ’’! $•y-.:Xi%-:% £' '’v ' •'- v- • ■'• '- ••■ ' '• • U' .v, • SENIOR SUPERLATIVES Shannon Cavness Angela Dollins This year, 15 Seniors graduated with honor diplomas. Melody B. I woke up late for school, so I jumped in my rcni-a-ship (blue bomber) and took off. To make a long story short. Peach Tue During our Freshman year, we went bowling and to a park in town for our skip day. For the first time, the Summer Olympics were held in the United States. We started planning for the prom and decided what to sell for fundraisers. Our Sophomore year was pretty exciting. Aids became a new dreaded disease. We ran the Halloween Spook House to raise money for prom. We sold Spirit shirts for a fundraiser and made a good profit off of them. We won two skip days that year. We went to Lake Wappapello both times and had a lot of fun! In our Junior year, we spent most of our time selling products trying to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom. We ran the Spook House again and the Junior stand during basketball season. The prom turned out great. The theme was, “If Only For Tonight. The A-Tcam Girls Bas- ketball Team went to Flat River for the State Competition. The Tiger Baseball Team went to the 2nd round in State Competition. We pur- chased a bench in front of the new building. We agreed with the Seniors of’87, to follow through with the Time Capsule. This year was the Statue of Liberty’s 100th birthday. In our last and final year, Mickail Gorbacheau came to the U.S. to talk about the Star Wars. We celebrated the 200th year of the United States of America’s Constitution. The biggest Stock Market fall occurred since it crashed years ago. The Winter Olympics came to the United States in 1988. The Junior-Senior Prom was April 23rd, 1988, and the theme was “Heaven in your Eyes.” Peach Rose V ft,, •r . c . The Missouri Association of FHA is composed of more than 13,500 members who are enrolled in consumer and occupational home economics classes. Of all the vocational students organiza- tion in the state, FHA HERO (Future Homemakers of America Home Economics Related Occupations) is the largest. The overall goal of the organization is to help youth assume their rolls in society through growth, family life, vocational preparation, and community involvement. Missouri FHA has 13 regions within the state. Elected members from these regions make up the state executive council. Neelyville High School is proud that two of our students were elected to state and regional offices. Ruchelle Johnson, state vice-president, is the liaison person be- tween the state and regional organizations. She attended a spring training session, two annual State Leadership Conferences, Public Speaking Camp, National Leadership Meeting and two state ex- ecutive council meetings. She was responsible for leadership devel- opment activities in her region. Not only is this a feat for females, but the group also has chosen Mona Allen as their vice-president. Shannon has been an officer for four years. In her first year in FFA, she received the star greenhand award. Besides taking on the challenge of leading this extraordinary group, she also has earned the Honors Diploma. The high school carpentry classes worked on the inside of the building from August 24, 1987. They painted the walls, finished the doors, layed the floor tile and put in the ceiling. The electricity and plumbing were also installed by the carpentry classes, under the supervision of Mr. Brannum. In January of 1988, Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Skaggs moved in their new rooms. In February, Mrs. Slayton’s art and Spanish room was finished, and she was ready to move into a bigger room. The building will also be shared by Mrs. Peters and Mr. Yeager who will be teaching in the new build- ing at the beginning of next year. AND SCIENCE BUILDING Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Skaggs and Mrs. Slayton all feel the rooms are cleaner, brighter and bigger for more storage space. Mrs. Foster said “The heat is a lot more consis- tent than ever before. And Mrs. Skaggs and Mrs. Slayton agreed in unison. Here's one more piece of installation. PREPARATION Preparing is a part of everyone’s life. Everyday, students prepare to study, go to their classes, and visit with friends. Most of the time, we spend more time preparing than actually doing. Preparing causes anxiety, which can be fun, but mostly preparing is very nerve-racking. Hey, we're not nervous! Just wait until you get to do this! I can paint better with my eyes closed. Diggin' up bones .. . Is it really that funny. Tina? It seems that we've had to learn to hustle to get from one side of the school to the other in five minutes or less. We've now learned that showers are a part of P.E.. and that in order for music to come from our instruments, first we must learn to read notes and music. Plus. I wouldn’t want to forget to mention that it is necessary for us to be able to label the parts of a frog. Aside from the reading, writing and math, sev- enth grade is a lot of fun! The boys basketball team seems to have enjoyed a lot of success. They won all of their basketball games except the final one in the tournament. The junior high girls team was undefeated this year. My elbow’s bent, my spine ain’t straight. My temperature is one-o-eight. My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear, There is a hole inside my ear. I have a hangnail, and my heart is — what? What’s that? What’s that you say? You say today is ... Saturday? G’bye, I’m going out to play!” .
