Another important happening of our time was that of famous singers becoming involved in important social is- sues These included creating WE ARE THE WORLD con- cerning world hunger and the benefit show done for farm aid. Sylvester Stallone made a big premier with his two smashing movies RAMBO, FIRST BLOOD PART II and ROCKY IV which made over $47 million in the first week of showing. Micheal J. Fox was the teenage heartthrob of the year. He starred in the number one and number two movies of the summer BACK TO THE FUTURE and TEEN WOLF. This year, VCR's and satellites were becoming com- mon. If a home didn't have the one, it most likely had the other. If a home had neither, then it wasn't considered real. A milestone happened when Coke changed its recipe. The new product was called New Coke, but everyone seemed to want the Old Coke back. It was returned to the market which made the New Coke now the Old Coke and the New Coke was named Coke Classic. It was all very confusing. The World Series was very important and special to all of us. It was the first time ever that the two Missouri teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals, faced each other in a World Series. It was called the 1-70 series for that was the interstate which separated St. Louis and Kansas City. St. Louis was expected to win; but as luck turned out, Kansas City did. It didn't matter though, because Missouri was still number one. Sodas stayed the same price, 50$. Gas went up, then down, then up ... It was in a price range of 96$ to $ 1.04. Candy bars went up to 40$. 9

SENIOR CLASS of 1986 During our senior year, the debate over placing weap- ons in outer space called Star Wars was a major world controversy. Also, for the first time in years, the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, and the leader of Russia, Premier Mikhail Gorbachev, met for peace talks in Geneva, Switzerland. Created for wind resistance and smoother rides, aero- dynamic cars were being made, with such names as Aer- ostar, Taurus and the new Mustang. Aids, a disease that weakens the body's immune sys- tem, finally causing death, was a new dreaded disease. It struck mainly homosexuals, drug users and those re- quiring blood transfusions. Actor Rock Hudson died from this desease. A new hope for cancer victims came with the an- nouncement of super cells ' This meant mixing white blood cells with hormones. It was not known if this would work, but doctors did have hope. Another historical moment in medicine occurred when the first woman ever gave birth to seven babies. Four of the children died. Also, the first woman received a me- chanical heart. Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner and many others in the rock video scene influenced fashion with their two or more colors of hair, wild clothes and wierd jewelry, but jeans and sneakers were still a must with teenagers. Favorite songs were Mis Led by Kool and the Gang, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham!, Private
