This year s publication class was a very small one with only eleven members. This meant a lot of work for each member of the yearbook staff, including our advi- sor, Mrs. Brannon. We hope you enjoy this book as much as we have enjoyed organizing and put- ting the final touches to it. We would also like to thank everyone for their hard work in the produc- tion of this book. The Mid-South Fair in Mem- phis was attended. FFA also has done several projects near home such as the annual FFA hayride and the Barn Warming in November. They also distributed FFA calendars. One of their biggest selling projects was the selling of the Speed-O-Wheel which was a school craze for a while. First row: Orville Allen, advisor; R. Peterson, pres.; B. Aden, v-pres ; J. This year's band with seventy-five members is larger than last year's; and according to Mr. Strachan. the band director, it sounds better this year too! The players practice first hour everyday in the band room and when they are not there, they are hitting the road trying to keep in step. Cities where they march are Naylor, Van Buren and Clearwater. The band will also perform at Neelyville for the Christmas concert and in the spring at Poplar Bluffs festival. Near the end of school, the band will compete in the district contest at Cape Girardeau. Drum Majorettes Majorettes Renee Rutherford and Traci Pennington R. Johnson. K. Warren. D. Truelove, R. Boone. Beta president is more work than I thought it would be. but it’s what I want- ed and it's what I got. The Senior Beta Qub was formed for the first time at Neelyville in 1960-61 The first president at N’eelyville was Richard Rich. Beta has not really changed much since 1960 for the club still has the same requirements and values. Members of Senior Beta must maintain ap- proved grades to retain their membership. Some of Senior Beta's fund raisers arc selling maga- zines. records, and the showcase. Tom Watt. The mon- ey raised is used to pay for the members' hotel rooms at State Convention in March. This is held each year in St. Louis at the Marriotts Pavilion Hotel. 28 First Row: P. Twitty, recreational leader; D. Russom, president. J. Dicken. secretary; M. Emmons, treasurer; B. The members are called upon to Fill in for teachers who need to leave school and have no replacement. The membership consists mainly of honor students who have considered teaching as their career choice. One time a year each member chooses a subject that they are interested in and teach that subject for two days under the guidance of the classroom teacher. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA PEP CLUB The Pep Club was started by Mrs. Davis. Its purpose is to encourage school spirit and student involvement in the games. It also gives our team more pep and spirit in away games by getting the group to sit together and to cheer along. The members bought T-shirts with a Nee- lyville Tiger on front and their names on the back. 51 A Team Basketball The A-Team boys had a very good sea- son. They scored 1625 points to our oppo- nents’ 1437 points. That was about 63.5 per- cent of the total. Coach in summarizing the year said, We finished with 16 wins and 10 losses. All the ball clubs that beat us were very good ones. I felt like six out of the ten losses were very close games that we could have probably won with better free throws. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't finish first in any tournament or con- ference play. We have strengthened our schedule by adding the Senath tournament and a schedule game with Hayti.” Coach was very pleased with the progress that was made late in the season and appre- ciated fan support. Grades are also important to a basketball player. To be able to participate in the games, the players have to keep up their grades. This year the Lady Tigers looked pretty- nice on the floor in their new suits and warm- ups. Two of their toughest opponents this year have been Malden and Ellsinore. SENIOR OFFICERS Bobby Aden, Vice-president; Debbie Russom. secretary treasurer; Lisa Newcomb, reporter; Kim Fisher, president; Mr. Rich, sponsor. During our senior year Ronald Reagan, one of America s oldest Presidents, was re- elected. Our high school years saw the medical breakthrough of artificial heart transplants and the rise of the computer craze. Sodas cost 50c with Mountain Dew being the favorite among most teenagers. Snickers and M M's were a must, costing about 40c. The Summer Olympics were held in the United States for the first time in years. Listening to music was a favorite pas- time. Some favorite songs were 'One More Night” by Phil Collins, You're The Inspi- ration by Chicago, and Purple Rain by Prince. Sports cars were also popular. Names var- ied from Trans-am, Mustang to Camaro. Those owning a car spent most of their money filling it with gas, which cost any- where from 98c to Si.04 a gallon. Clothes were becoming very unique and futuristic with the influence by Punk Rock. Of course, there were also the contempo- rary styles of blue jeans and Nikes. HISTORY SKIP DAY On the day of the traditional Senior Skip Day, seniors started toward Markham Springs, along with the rain. Once there, they decided to move to Wappapello Lake. When everyone finally arrived at one place, the fun began with Mr. Rich and a few helpers cooking hamburgers. The rest of the group went to play volleyball, tennis, and football. Of course, eventually almost everyone wound up in the water. 59 MOST SCHOOL SPIRITED Jennifer Hill and Malcomn Henry BEST DRESSED Shelly Hart and Ty Tyler Favorites are chosen by the senior class. FRIENDLIEST Lori Fowler and Bill Hoffmann 61 SENIOR SUPERLATIVES These seniors have achieved an Honors Diploma, which requires additional work in the areas of science, math and Malcomn L. Henry English. Because of their academic excellence, they are being honored as Senior Superlatives. Ginger Dawn Baker Rodney Russell Eaker 62 Ricky Glynn Kee Loren Andrew Martin Dawn N.
