This year book of the Class of 1955 is an attempt to capture and preserve the many memories of our Senior Year. We have recorded on these pages some of the happenings of our school days, and the names and pictures of our teachers, classmates, and friends. When we review these pages in the years to come, may they bring back happy recollections of our high school days. My sincere congratulations to the students of Neelyville High School and especially the staff of Hi-Lites of 1954-55 for the splendid whole-hearted effort put forth in the publi- cation of this fine year book. The long hours of patient diligent work represented in this publication is very com- parable to the difficult tasks that lie ahead, and your staff has proven their worthiness. Senior Class Wi$tor§ Way back in the year 1951, forty-two green, bashful, but eager freshman, arrived at Neelyville High School, for the purpose of beginning the long four-year grind, which now is drawing to a close. Members of the class who held office during our first year were: Howard Jones, President; Byford Hines, Vice- President; Linda Hayman, Secretary-Treasurer; Erma Johnson, Reporter. For our Class Queen King we chose Joyce Coleman and Joe Combs. Linda Hayman and Jimmy Kimberlin were Fresh- man representatives in the Homecoming Activities. Our first high school sponsor was Mr. Jesse Pop Humphries. Our Sophomore year we again chose Mr. Humphries for our sponsor. Our officers were: Jimmy Kimberlin, President; By- ford Hines, Vice-President; Mary Lou Tate, Secretary-Trea- surer; Erma Johnson, Reporter. Our Class-King- ..Queen was Howard Jones and Linda Hayman. Howard Jones was selected as Homecoming King, also. Next year we were only one step from upper classmen, but still struggling hard. Jimmy Kimberlin was again elect- ed President; Howard Jones, Vice-President; Mary Lou Tate, Secretary-Treasurer; and Pansy Blair, Reporter. For our Class Queen and King we chose Mary Lou Tate and Jimmy Kimber- lin. Jimmy Shelton was an escort in the Homecoming Activ- ities. We ordered our class rings in August and received them in November. We presented Beanes for Breakfast, a comedy in three acts, as our Junior Play before a large aud- ience. It was a real success! Our class sponsor was Miss Allen. Fifty-four—fifty-five and Seniors at last! During the year we continued to do things for dear ole Neelyville High. Our class selected Mr. Joe Hillis as our sponsor and Mr. Humphries as our co-sponsor. Our officers were: Mary Lou Tate, President; Linda Hayman, Vice-President; Shirley Hancock, Secretary-Treasurer; Joan Ward, Reporter. Our class King- -Queen was Jimmy Jones and Shirley Hancock. Our class was well represented in the Homecoming Activities this year. Erma Johnson was an attendant, Howard Jones and Leroy Murray were escorts; the King, Jimmy Shelton, also was chosen from our class. For our Senior Play we used, Granddad Steps Out. This too, was as great a success as our Junior Play. In the spring, came Sneak Day. Oh, and what a day. April 30, our four years of toil was well repaid by our week spent in touring the South. I, Reva Crismon, will my singing ability to Miss Allen and my loud mouth to Fern Brown. I, Leroy Murray, will my ability as a salesman to Johnny Hribovsek and my crew cut to Bob Chappell. I, Peggy Ray, will my jean boots to Rosie Hoesli and my big red pencil that I once stole from Helen Talbott back to her. I, Howard Jones, will my trumpet playing ability to Kenny Miller and my athletic ability to Kip Asher. I, Fern Gowen, leave my excess pounds to Shirley Humphries and my ability to run the mimeograph machine to Vernon Ramsey. I, Jimmy Jones, leave Howard Abanatha h$ir to the bass drum and my long legs to Ray Crossen. I, Shirley Hancock, will my blue eyes to Mildred Dollins and my blonde hair to Karol Suder. I, Melvin Rideout, will my silence to Pat McKinney and my neatness to Gene Hart. I, Erma Johnson, will my basketball ability to Gwena Murray and my typ- ing ability to Barbara Blackwell. I, Jimmy Pouge Shelton, will my size and basketball ability to Fred- die Davis. (Maybe he will use it.) I, Mary Lou Tate, will my ability to sing like a bird to Dee Phillips and my dramatic ability to Harold Phillips. I, Kenneth Karnes, will my active tongue to Mary Sue Robertson and my height to Arthur Blagg. I, Pauline White, bequeath all my books to Jackie Cochran and my blue eyes to Carolyn Raper. I, Harold Hayes, will my brains to anyone who needs them and my way with women to Jay Brickell. I, Donna Jean Fisher, will my ever-blushing face to Evonne Blair and my ability to help publish the Neelyville Hi-Lites to June Tolliver. I, Leroy Creach, will my mustache to Jerry Crossen and my abilityto get kicked out of Mixed Chorus to Lejoy Foster. I, Pansy Blair, will my ability to talk fast to Billy Kifer and my typ- ing ability to Lavedia Alliston.
