During its hundred years Needham High School has occupied several different buildings. When the high school was first established, two schools were actually set up. Since Wellesley was still a part of Needham in 1865, the so-called West High School was established in what is now Wellesleyg and the East High School was set up for the area which is still Needham. On this map the various locations of the East High School 1called simply Needham High School after the Needham-Wellesley separation in 18813 are indicated. The first high school classes were held in the Centre School 113. This school had been built at the location of the old center of town which in the early 1800's was the location of the meetinghouse and a sawmill. In 1865, however, the center of town was beginning to shift to its present location because of the railroad. Stores were being built near the railroad, and eventually churches alsog and thus the rest of the high schools were located near the present center of town. Village Hall 121, later known as Parker Hall, was located on Great Plain Avenue near the railroad tracks, Oakland Hall 155, on May Street behind St. Joseph's Church, the Kimball building 123 1on the site of the old Parker Hallj, where the Norfolk County Trust Co. is nowg the Emery Grover School 133, next to St. Joseph's Church on Highland Avenue, the school known simply as Needham High School 141, next to the Emery Grover Schoolg the present Needham High School 165, located on the hill above Memorial Park.
