Homecoming-1963 With crossed lingers and pleading glances at the sky, students of NBHS participated in the best Homecoming everf' Although the weather forecasts predicted Hpossible rain, Thad Woodard and his Homecoming committee continued their enthusiasm and their plans. Float chairmen found themselves worrying about deadlines for final float plansg begging for a trailer or even a small carg collecting pen- niesg and wondering, Why did l ever volunteer'?,' Afternoons were Hlled with meetings and searches for scarce chicken wire. Homeroom periods involved reading lengthy lists of udosv and dont's. Homecoming festivities began at 5:30 Friday morning when the gates were opened, and the Hoats arrived at the athletic field. The re- mainder of the day was spent putting on the last pieces of crepe paper and hammering in the last nails. As their contribution to Homecom- ing, the Hospitality Committee made and sold the traditional purple and gold corsages. A four oiclock Friday afternoon the parade began mov-ing down Fayetteville Street. Over sixty floats competed for the awards, making it Broughtonis longest parade ever. Guaranteeing a successful 1963 Homecoming was the victory of the Broughton Caps in the game Friday night. During the halftime of the game the sponsors were introduced on the field in bright, new con- X vertibles. As it is with every Homecoming, an array of past graduates , returned for the festivities. For all students, past and present, Home- Thad 'Woodard Homecoming Chairman announces coming. 1963, was one event to be long remembered. the yvinngr of 3 door prize during halfrime Gere. n10nleS.
