Broughton welcomed us, pleased to have 2100 pairs of feet moving down halls, in and out of class- rooms. The parking lot filled up, and cafeteria lines, espe- cially fifth period, were endless. We tried to settle down and relearn our study habits, as extracurricular activities became more inter- esting and demanding. New students and teachers were honored at teas . . . we cheered at football games, went on bus trips, and did the Dog at open houses at White Memorial. Homecoming, minus rain, was a success . . . The Honor Society had its fall induction . . . We prepared for the future, taking the P.S.A.T. and absorbing facts and statistics about the schools of our choice on College Day. We took part in Raleigh life, attending Van Cliburn's Concert, watching the uculturaln movies at the Ambassador . . . We observed with interest the doings of the special session of the Legislature, And, during our half-day vacation at the State Fair, we ate too much and spent too much, and came home with sawdust-filled shoes. The days rolled on, and we barely noticed that the leaves had fallen. The routine was set: classes, homework, too-short week-ends, The usual problems, the fun, the hopes, and the occasional discoveries of ourselves and others. Looking forward to Thanksgiving vacation, we were stunned, as was the world, at President Ken- nedyls death. We walked the halls in silence that Friday, November 22, on Monday we had a Memorial Assembly and saw the televised funeral proceedings. ff-f-TAWX ,7- 5 . . t 1 -Y--1 t 7 XF fairy fill Ill f .tm .V 1 I gal' .,,V f ,WVJ , .
