P resrdertt LoUIs ALEXANDER .............................. Vice-President The Audio Visual Club is the newest among Brough- ton's family of clubs. After receiving its charter in the fall of the year 1957-58, the club set to work carry- ing out its plans for the year. Having a car in the homecoming parade, plans for a school radio station, and plans for improving the sound systems in the auditorium and gym, are just a few of the things that the Audio Visual Club planned and carried out this year. The main purpose of the Audio Visual Club is to aid the teachers in teaching the students of this school by showing movies or providing any A.V. equip- ment needed to teach the student or help him better understand the subjects which he is taking. The club is also responsible for providing A.V. equipment at all RAMONA ORTA ......... ...... S ecretary JANICE HOUSTON ........................................ Treasurer dances, assemblies, and other school activities if asked to do so. While teaching the members of the club how to operate the equipment which they will use during the year, they are also taught the importance of good conduct and courtesy in the classroom. Dependability and responsibility are two more Vital traits which the A.V. members are taught and which play a vital part in the success of the club. The success of the A.V. Club can be contributed to only one person, that person being its advisor, Mrs. Vera Melton, Through her relentless efforts, Mrs. Melton has made this year's Audio Visual Club one of the most outstanding clubs in the school, and a club which each one of its mem- bers can be proud of.

The Mizpah Devotional Group, which meets every morning before school, renders the service of helping the individual to become a better Chris- tian and to be a good iniiuence on his fellow stu- dent. Through this fellowship in the morning, a person is better prepared spiritually to confront the problems of the day. The members of the group give the devotionals and each Thursday a guest speaker is invited. This year the group has profited greatly under the capable leadership of its oflicers. 1 S x BJ.

The purpose of the Library Club is to advance Library usage in the school and to bring the Li- brary closer to the students. When the club for the year 1957-58 was or- ganized with the aid of Mrs. Melton, advisor, the following officers were elected: Judy Barbour, President, Johanna Johnson, Vice-President, Lo- retta Hardy, Secretary, Fannie Lou Owens, Treasurer, and Martha Hunter, Reporter. With this election the club began another serviceable year to the club. On November 15, the club went to Durham to attend the meeting of the North Central Dis- X5 ll E 5 trict of the Library Club. T reasurer .................................Reporter 4 Secretary of the district. Our club was honored by having Willis Reed elected to the district office of Reporter for the year 1957-58. Two meetings were held each month. Mrs. Rosamond DuJardin made a visit to the library and talked to members of the Library Club and English classes. A Book Fair was held to acquaint the students and teachers with the new books. The club members are looking forward to being host to the State conventicn which is to be held in Raleigh on April ll and 12. On April 26 the club held its social which was in the form of a picnic.
