Facult and dministration Left to right: Mr. Holliday, Mrs. Sanderling, Mrs. Stephenson, Mr. Holyfield, Mrs. Green and Mr. Johns. Joseph Holliday is principal of Needham B. Broughton High School. He has under his supervision a faculty made up of sixty-five members, and a student body of nearly fifteen hundred. Broughton is the only senior high school for whites in Raleigh. There are two junior high schools and fifteen gram- mar schools. There are six schools for Negroes. During the past year the citizens of Raleigh and Wake County voted a special tax to work towards improving the schools. Here at Broughton, plans are underway for a new cafeteria and a new gymnasium. Jesse O. Sanderson is superintendent of the Raleigh School System. His offices are located on Newbern Avenue. The work of the superintendent, the teachers, and princi- pals, is governed in part by a school board composed of seven members, plus the superintendent. This group meets once a month and more often when necessary. Another group, the Parent-Teacher organization is always working to im- prove or help with affairs here at school. 5 JEss1s O.
