F0135 WURD MEMORIES-of friends and teachers, of work and play, of life and laughter-all these we have strived to recapture in the pages of this, THE 1947 LATIPAC. As the years of our high school life roll by, the realization of how fill. precious each moment truly is grows deeper and acquires a fuller meaning. Knowing that some day we shall no longer be able to live within the beloved walls of our Alma Mater, we have tried to include everything here that means Broughton to us. ' We have struggled to preserve in this book a cross section of this year at Broughton. We have attempted to present to you, the student body, a LATIPAC that in the future you may pick up and say, 'This was Broughton as I knew it in 194'7. 4

P50164 TID fo MISS CELESTE LANE PENNY WE, the senior class, as an expression of our loving devotion and deep-rooted apprecia- tion, dedicate this, THE 1947 LATIPAC, to Miss Celeste Lane Penny: An inspiring example of a teacher who was more than a teacher, and a friend who was more than a friendg In whose heart we always found understanding, sympathy, and kindly wisdom, From whose sincere Christian character we constantly gained inspiration, com- fort, and guidance, From whose friendship our lives have been enriched immeasurablyg By whose patient persistence we have developed to a higher degree the best that is within us, and by whom the good in the worst of us has been brought to lightg From Contact with whom we have become infused with the desire to do bigger and better things for our school, our nation, our world, and, above all for the kingdom of God. as Thus to relieve the wretched was her pride, And e'en her failings leaned to virtue's sideg But in her duty prompt at every call, She watched and wept, she prayed and felt for all. And as a bird each fond endearment tries To tempt its new-fledged offspring to the skies, She tried each art, reproved each dull delay, Allured to brighter worlds, and led the way. 5
