BA EBALL Mr. Dewey Starnes was the Bus- iness Manager of the Raleigh High School Athletic Association. He helped in planning the schedules, bought and looked after the repair of all athletic equipment, handled the sale of tickets to all games, and in general did a little of everything ill connection with the work of the Athletic Department. ...-- Mr. Starues NYith the return of spring, many hopefuls for the hasehall team hegan the daily grind to get in shape for the approaching season. Prospeets were hright as the new coach, Charles Dandelake took over his duties. Many of last year's stars returned and the team had high hopes of winning the State L'hampionship. Veteran regulars of last year's team were llnek Senter, Buddy Murray, Craven Turner, ldverette Dixon, Johnny Holmes, lialph Heath, Lefty llorton, l'arl Bunn and Hinky Joslin. After several weeks of strenuous proctiee, Raleigh showed up well in a few warm-up games hy heating XYake Forest lligh School, Fuqnay Springs. Cary, and Lexington. They next opened the Eastern Fonferenee hy defeating ltocky Mount Je-1. Horton was the winning piteher. The following week Durham upset the locals S-5 in a hard fought game. The relief pitching of Joslin featured this game. 'l'he Capitals then came haek and produced one of the higgest surprises of the current season. They turned haek the V. of N11 freshmen ll-lo with Joslin again offering fine relief hy pitching and hitting a homer. Murray and Senter led the hitting for the Raleigh Cluh.
