COUHCII SUIVGS For Student Involvement The Student Council really worked hard to improve the school this year, and a lot of good changes came about be- cause of their weekly meetings. Lance Touve was President which gave him access to the gavel while he directed the meetings, Eric Stamm, Vice Pres. conducted assemblies and filled in for Lance, Joan Eaton very accurately recorded the minutes of the meetings. Be- linda Keene was the Treasurer and was kept busy taking care of the books and hlling the pop machine. There were many committees formed to work on school projects, including committees for the Booster Club Aid, Con- stitution, Bulletin Board, Fund Raising, and more. Many of these groups were quite suc- cessful in their efforts. The hrst activities sponsored by the Student Council were the Homecoming Dance and Christ- mas week. Other things they planned were a lounge for non-smokers, a jukebox, a bull-horn, and a better smoking area. 11

Activity Period a Sucoess It's nice to have a break from the regular school work, and that was the purpose of Activity Period every Wednesday afternoon. Students chose one or two activities to partici- pate in, offered by teachers and adults from the community. Hobbies and interests such as gym- nastics, ice-skating, stained glass, rock group, dance, and lots more were available for students to increase their knowledge in a large variety of areas. Linda lVlacCormack, the new Community- Schools coordinator, assisted by Penny Letwin struggled to correct the system and achieved a much improved Activity Period. She has hopes it will be even better next year. ' 12
