What a year this was for 4 and 5 year old children! One hour classes quickly increased to half-day sessions. The children were arriving at l and leaving at 3:30 by Gctober lst. Among the many things the children are expected to learn throughout the year are social habits-considering the rights of others, taking turns, politeness and cheer- fulness. Work habits as well as skills are required sub- jects, Willingness and eager- ness do not have to be taught and these traits are charming assets to this newest class in Nederland School. The first year of school is always memorable because it is the beginning of a new life forachild. Instead of being home each day he is now on his own-meeting people, making new friends, learning to read and count and to say his A,I3,C's. He now can take home drawings and school papers to show progress in these accomplish- ments. Mrs. Murphy worked with the children on readiness and in the pre-primer until Christmasg then the remain- der of the year was spent on tI1e primer and the first reader. She has been pleased to have the children's parents see the school in action and discuss the in- dividual's success or problems throughout the year. s 0- f QV gi ii. t . it 'wr funn?
