I+ is a compila+ion of even+s in a form which represen+s our school, wi+h a+ leas+ +he complefeness +o sugges+ +he res+. I+ brings +o our a++en+ion how very wide +he range of ac+ivi+y of +he Universi+y is. I+ sharpens +he realiza+ion +ha+ i+ is impossible for each of us +o par+icipa+e in every+hing. As we go +hrough +hese college years we all find if necessary +o concen+ra+e wi+hin our special fields, we live in our separa+e rooms or dorms or houses, we become closely confined wi+hin our own organizafions and associa+e wi+h +hose whose in+eres+s are qui+e close +o our own. As +ime and effor+ make our pursui+s increasingly impor+an+ +o us, i+ becomes only +oo simple for us +o develop +he a++i+ude +ha+ our special+ies and organiza+ions are +he mos+ ius+ifi- able, +ha+ our way of doing +hings is +he mos+ correc+, +ha+ our associa+es are +he only ones wor+h having. Toward +hings and people no+ our own, we easily become indifferen+, and even con+emp+uous .... . . . . Seeing drawn +oge+her in +his form so many values +o which we personally have no+ had +ime +o give much a+- +en+ion does some+hing +o overcome +his feeling. A+ leas+ i+ has for us who have classified and shaped and organized +his volume, for we have learned how many, many parfs +here are +o +his school, and how small and incompIe+e each separa+e par+ is un+iI pieced +oge+her in+o a whole pic+ure. As we look a+ +his book in re+rospec+ of +he year we have ius+ spen+, +hose +hings in which we have personally par+icipa+ed will bring us +he riches+ memories, and +hose persons who have par+icipa+ed in +he mos+ will find fuIles+ meaning in +his book. If i+ were possible for some person +o par+icipa+e in every+hing i+ would be he who would mos+ clearly unders+and +he imporfance of +he whole school and +he whole year: for he would see +ha+ al+hough every eIemen+ has i+s value, +he value of +hem all +oge+her is infini+ely grea+er +han any single one.
