Seeking Advancement Paul Holliway, Sponsor Boot the Cards R Irvin. Treas.; J. Bonebrake. Pres.; R. Sudman. V.-Pres.; V. Budd. Sec. Amid the chaos of finding correct rooms and lockers, the class of “71” got off to a good start at NCHS—strong in athletics, academics, and in many other extracurricular activities. The sophomores participated in the Homecoming activities by constructing a float, Boot 'em to Defeat,” which won third place. Participation was shown in athletics by many talented sophomores as they earned starting positions on the Pioneer basketball and football teams which they proved themselves worthy of throughout the year. The Pioneers were also backed by those spirited sophomores who were cheerleaders and members of Pep Club. Excellent leadership for the sophomore class was provided through the Student Council representatives, through the Fort Teen Board members, and through the guidance shown by the ambitious sophomore class officers. Interest was shown in music through participation in band, choir, and orchestra. Many students were members of the Otoean staff and took part in the All School Play. Other events which sophomores entered were the Optimist Essay Contest and various speech contests. 14
