Seniors were hosts of the Holiday Dance, participated in Breakfast Club, and directed fund-raising projects for their trip to Chicago. After Baccalaureate Services May 27, the seniors traveled to Chicago for a four day trip to conclude their high school days; June 1, 117 of them received their diplomas opening the door to a future of new and thrilling experiences. After the Pioneer victory over Falls City, Jane and her attendants were escorted to the dance at the National Guard Armory where beautiful fall decorations added to the scene of Homecoming 1961. The identity of our Fun Night royalty was revealed during the Stage Show intermission. Everyone seemed to like this new idea. The basketball free throw concession in the gym proved to be very popular. Other concessions held in the halls included a dart-throwing game, a cake walk, a mechanical brain , bowling, and golf putting. Food was served at the food bar on first floor during the evening. One of the councils’ main projects was sponsoring Fun Night. They were in charge of all arrangements and were assisted by the student body. They attended the State Marching Contest in Lincoln, the Aksarben Marching Contest in Omaha, and Marching Clinic at Syracuse. They were the guest band at an Omaha Hockey game. French Club French Club completed its first year as one of our high school organizations sponsored by Helen Holliway. Meetings were held each second Tuesday night of the month. The purpose o f this organization was the promotion of enthusiasm at the various sports activities. In November the Pep Club had a covered dish supper honoring our undefeated football team. During Homecoming ceremonies the Pep Club members formed a heart to use as a setting for the crowning. Before games club members decorated the goal posts and made signs to post in the halls. The members purchased new uniforms and emblems this year. They are purple crewneck sweaters and purple pleated skirts. The new emblems are gold NC's worn on the left shoulder.
