CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION. 1 -- 4 CURRICULUM AND FACULTY. 5 -- 16 SPORTS.17 -- 30 STUDENTS.31 — 64 ACTIVITIES. 65 -- 96 ADVERTISEMENTS.97 -- 112 HOW FIRM THE FOUNDATION Approximately one year ago the citizens of Bushkill Township, Lower Nazareth Township, Nazareth Boro, Stockertown Boro, Tatamy Boro and Upper Nazareth Township voted to merge these six districts to form the Nazareth Area School District. The consolidation of these dis¬ tricts can mean better educational opportunities for the children of the Area through coordination of instruction and instructional materials. To scientifically plan for the future and further improve the educational program, the school board engaged the Educational Research Service, Inc. to survey the expanding school population and present school facilities. This group of educational experts produced the bulletin Nazareth Area School Building Survey , re¬ leased by the School Board in December 1959. The report indicates the urgent need for con¬ struction of new elementary school buildings, centered in those areas where the pupil popula¬ tion is concentrated and indicates the potential of greatest growth. These new school centers will streamline the educational program by more efficient and economical programming and elimi¬ nate operationally expensive and hazardous buildings. The research team further recommended that because of the current and impending growth the present Junior High School building should be renovated and enlarged. They also suggest additional space should be provided in the Senior High School. The school board and school administration, because of the capital outlay necessary to cope with the recent fire hazard ruling of the Depart¬ ment of Labor Industry, and the conclusions and recommendations of the research team, have outlined a plan of building construction to meet the physical needs of the district. The board also recognizes the heart of an effective system of public schools is the teacher. They, therefore, want the schools staffed by well qualified, competent and dedicated teachers. To this end the board has made every effort to furnish an adequate salary schedule to encourage and hold these good teachers. The school administration subscribes to the educational philosophy which recognizes the im¬ portance of equal educational opportunity for all children. To assure this, the curriculum of the entire school system is being reviewed and re¬ vised by the professional staff, to ensure all boys and girls an educational befitting their interests and abilities. 2
