UNDER NEW COACH Kneeling: Paul Elkins, Robert Scobo, William Stock- las, Jim Riefenstahl, Dale Sandt, Raymond Greene, Richard Buss, Francis Donnelly. Standing: Coach Marlyn Roth, Barry Smith, Neal Sprague, David Bowers, Samuel Werkheiser, George Jones, Kenneth Stimmel, Warren Snyder. J. V. Cheerleaders reading clockwise: Mary Louise Seyfried, Edythe Browne, Peggy Jo Betz, Carol Yeisley, Diane Schlegel, and Nancy Letson. Starting 1959 with an entirely new coach¬ ing staff, coaches Mel Kessler and Marlyn Roth led the Varsity and JV Blue Eagles through a smashing season. With a record of 11 wins and only 11 losses, the Varsity Eagles became top contenders in the Lehigh- Northampton League. The Blue Eagles top goal ace was Kenneth Butz. Also with a tremendous record of 17 wins and 5 losses, the Nazareth JV’s breez¬ ed through the season with little trouble. The leading JV ace was Neal Sprague. Although dropping seven out of thirteen games in the first half, the Eagles were beaten only four times by Lehigh-Northamp- ton League teams. Nazareth ended the first half in fourth place. Making a strong second half start, Naza¬ reth won three games in a row before being defeated by Phillipsburg. Nazareth’s second half record was 5 out of 8 with only 3 league game defeats. The Eagles placed 3rd in the second half league competition.

FOR BLUE EAGLES In our area, as throughout the country, baseball has become a tradi¬ tional spring and summer sport. Many students of our school look forward to competing with the teams of other schools in the area. Although nine positions had to be filled, Nazareth had an average year. Here is the record; The first game was lost to Bangor 3-0 but the Eagles won the second game with Pen Argyl 3-2. The next two games were lost too; Whithall 2-1 and Hellertown 1-0. In the fifth game the Eagles won over Bangor 6-4, however the next game was lost to East Strouds¬ burg 4-0. The game with Wilson was close, Wilson winning 13-12. Pen Argyl won the next game 9-2, while the Eagles bounced back to defeat Coplay 2-0 and Southern Lehigh 5-4. The Eagles lost the next game to Fountain Hill 3-1.
