3n Jfflemoriam Our classmate, Martin Keppel, better known as Jughead, passed to a Better Life on March 11, 1948. Martin will always be remembered for his willing spirit and his friendliness to others. Besides being a star tackle on the football squad, Jughead also showed his leadership by serving on several class committees, as president of his homeroom, and as class treasurer. For his fine qualities and excellent sportsmanship, Martin will live in our memories.

The 1948 Comet aims to picture life at Nazareth High School. The informal photographs of classes, study halls, sports, and other activities show students in the process of experiencing varied and wholesome school activities. These work and play activities aim to give students experience in the democratic way of life and to foster latent qualities of leadership. Since the students of today become the citizens of to- morrow, they must be prepared to accept the present challenge to the democratic way of life and must struggle to keep our precious heritage alive in these turbulent times. That Nazareth High School students may, like the Greek runners in days of old, help in some small way to pass the torch of liberty and freedom on to the next generation and help to keep alive democratic ideals gives aim and direction to the faculty and the students of Nazareth High School.

Nazareth School Board Isft to Right: Frederick A. Marcks. Superintendent of Public Schools; William Henry; KI wood Unangsr; A. Russell Snyder, Vice President; Clinton Bunn; Peter Yeisley; Charles Knauss. Secretary to the Board; Charles Schnerr. Treasurer; George Smith, President. School affairs in Nazareth are handled by a School Board composed of seven members elected by the people. The hoard meets the first Monday of each month, and may call special sessions when necessary. It is their duty to have general supervision of the schools in the district, appoint the superintendent, levy school taxes, approve and administer the budget, and supervise the purchase of supplies for all schools in the district. The citizens of Nazareth are indeed fortunate to have this group of men who give so unstintingly of their time and service in the interest of Nazareth’s public schools. 4
