Looking Upward We at Nazareth have only to ascend the stairs to the upper floors of our school to be convinced that Rochester is religious in spirit. There silhouetted against all horizons, church spires pierce the sky in silent supplication to God, for here in the Cathedral City of Rochester are over two hundred churches. Two seminaries beautifully located overlook the banks of the Genesee River. To the north along Lake Avenue boulevard is St. Bernard's Seminary for the training of Catholic youth for the priesthoodg to the south Colgate Theological Seminary for young men who desire to spread the word of God to those of other faiths. Within the city are two monasteries-one belonging to the Basilian Fathers, The Center of Catholic Rochester fOpposiIe pagej: Sacred Heart Pro-Cathedral, whence Christ's vicar, the most Reverend james E. Kearney, D. D., Bishop of Rochester, directs the Catholic Church in the Rochester Diocese. That Christ May Live in Hearts lCenler drawingj: St. Bernard's Seminary has been, for more than a half century, a pathway to the Catholic priesthood for many young men who have desired to follow Christ's command, Go, teach ye all nations. Rt. Rev. Bernard J. McQuaid, first Bishop of Rochester and founder of St. Bernard's, was one of Rochester's foremost eudcators. x. ., ,mx '. 4' 'Zigi Nui teachers at Aquinas Institute, an all-boys' high school, and the other, the residence of the Carmelite Nuns whose con- stant prayers and sacrifices are offered for the welfare of Rochester and her people. There are six religious orders of women who have dedi- cated their lives to teach little children of God to love Him and their country. Two of these religious orders have their motherhouses situated in Rochesterfthe Sisters of St. joseph on East Avenue and the Sisters of Mercy on Blossom Road. God has been good to Rochester. lt has prospered. May we not say He has been pleased with the service of His people. Suffer Little Children to Come to Me fCer1Ierj: Many hundreds of young women from Rochester and its vicinity, desirous to lead little children to God, have entered the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. joseph in Rochester. Not by Bread Alone IRigbt drawingj: St. joseph's Church, an old landmark of downtown Rochester, is conveniently situated for those who take time to pay loving tribute to God during the hurried hours of the day. 92 ililtlt ,gg i 7,--' I5 .
