'Dann Kinder sehr euclz satt, was er fuer Sclzaelze liar . . . Nazareth students increased their knowledge and appreciation of the customs, culture, and people of Spanish- speaking countries through Spanish Club. They celebrated Las Posadas, a Mexican Christmas, and April 23, the day of the Spanish language. Spanish Club members also listened to various speakers and movies, and sold carnations to earn a few pesos. LANGUAGE CLUBS Recognizing that the flavor of a culture is just as important as its language, German Club participated in a wide variety of projects. Its members went Christmas shopping in Germantown, attended theatre parties, and enjoyed both a Christmas and a Mardi Gras party. To better appreciate the language, German Club held a skit competition, debated with Fenwick, and joined a German league formed with neighboring schools. Thus, German Club supplemented knowledge of language mechanics with a feeling for the people who speak it. Latin is a dead language. These words were often chanted by harassed Latin students. However, Latin Club was a faithful advocate of reincarnation. They sought, through activities such as Latin Appreciation Day, to make the language of the Romans, vibrant, exciting, and alive. French Club members cultivated an interest in the people, art, language, food, and history of France and French- speaking countries. It sponsored such events as a weiner roast, play, puppet show, and Les Feux d,ArtiIice. French students saw Paris Rive Gauchei' at Mundelein College and listened to Anne De Visscher from Belgium speak at their meetings. In general, they ate French cuisine, read French thoughts, and viewed their artistic genius.
