The unexamined life is not worth living. Words of noble truth, profound thought, and the philosophy of the social studies student. History courses delved into the past. Sociology, psychology, and economics studied the present. All of them looked to the future. SOCIAL STUDIES HUIVIANITIES One of the most beneficial results of the social sciences was a fusion of past and present. Social studies play such an integral part of our world that most students realized the need not only to be informed about current events, but to go into the past, into the mind of ancient man, and question the nature of evolutionary trends. The social sciences no longer asked just when and where,', but Why, ln psychology and sociology, one delved into the person. Man examined his desires, goals, thoughts, and psychological tendencies, and correlated them to his relationship to mankind and the abstract world. This year, Humanities made a further attempt to clarify manis position in society. This course gave an in-depth study of history and correlated it to the literary, musical, and artistic endeavors of western man. The girls composed a ballad, wrote a Dante paper, analyzed The Lion in Winter and filled in Renaissance look', sheets. They also consumed a sumptuous Greek meal, viewed The Agony and the Ecstasy, illustrated the Aeneid, and put on a comedy by Moliere. Humanities perhaps more than any other course, made the student active in her own education. HEC C . , exclaims F atlzer Frost
