AND b7IVIAN Hicks It was 1929, a year which made history, Prosperity sneaked around the corner and wouldn't come hack: the stock market crashed: fortunes were wiperl out: problems arose which the greatest men of the time could not solve. In the midst of this chaos, a green and bewildered freshman class became the lesser part of the student body of N. C. H. S. In time, coming out of their bewilderment, they elected Carl Ilorstman, president: Eugene Pelton, vice president: Bob Rose, secretary: and Margaret Cather, treasurer. Loran Riggins and Carl llorstman began their high school athletics careers: Virginia VVitz starred in debate: and Vernon Bentley won the Cromer Oratorical Contest. At the end of the year, this class had laid a foundation worthy of its future achievements. Coming back for our second year we felt we were destined to do big things, VVe chose Vernon Bentley for our president: Nancy Trowe, vice president: Joe Orr, secretary: and XfValter lleyer, Treasurer. Our C pin average was very high: Vernon Bentley and Helen Smith won letters in debate: Loran Riggins, Carl Horstman, Tom Teasdale, and Ronald Young were prominent in athletics. VVhen we became juniors and upperclassmen, we realized that our accomplishments were great. Hut we did not become conceited. Our goal was bigger and better things, and we did them! The Junior Follies, with a Cabaret idea as the theme were so successful that two performances were given. The Seniors were delightfully entertained at the Prom. VVe were well represented in all sports, dramatics, and on the debate team. Vernon Bentley again led the class during this successful year. Betty Hall was vice president: Charles Bowman, secretary: and Finley McClennan, treasurer. As Seniors we have continued our good work. Charles Bowman was elected president of our class: Tom Shoemaker, vice president: Tom Teasdale, secretary: and VValter Beyer, treasurer. And now our high school days are over. Another class will take our place, and carry on our school tra- ditions. We say good-bye with many regrets, and wewish to thank our school for the experience, aid and happiness it has given us.
