Dean of the Law Faculty ilcau’s Message At no time in American history, perhaps never in history, generally, was the legal profession faced with heavier responsibilities than today. The war — I would call it the Peoples’ War — is one for national survival, but by the same token it is a struggle for reestablishment of law and order. This is true in the international sphere, but also means that we must constantly affirm our belief in freedom under the law in the domestic sphere. That calls for competent lawyers, but also for a breadth of vision in the application of fixed legal principles and the formation of new ones. May the Class of 1942 make its contribution felt! In this, and all other respects, I wish it a career of real service to the Nation.
