I THE GR D ATE CHOOL In these days when more and more states are requiring five years of preparation for full certification as an elementary teacher, graduates of National College of Education are find- ing more than ever valuable the fine M.Ed. programs offered at the college. Following the pattern established a few years ago of subdividing the graduate school curriculum according to special areas of concentration, the Graduate Council added a pro- gram in guidance and counseling in the elementary school during 1961-62. This brings to seven the number of such specializations possible. The program in special education for teachers of the mentally retarded is now in its second year. In connection with this program a two-summer curriculum recommended by the State Department of Education to meet certification requirements was introduced in the summer of 1962.
