Presidents Edna Dean Baker, second president of the College, began her years here as a student, and spent many years serving National--first as assistant to the president and later presi- dent. During her years as president, the College continued to grow. In 1926 the location was again changed, this time to the beautiful building on Sheridan Road in Evanston. An inte- grated four-year college program for elementary, nursery and kindergarten teachers was de- veloped. In addition to the guidance she provided at the College, Miss Baker traveled to all parts of the world, served as officers of many professional organizations and wrote many books, including Adventures in Higher Education, the story of National College of Education. Through her zeal and determination she carried the college through many hazards to make it universally known for its broad social outlook and its sound guidance of those indi- viduals planning to make teaching a career. -9-
