DEDICATION Each student at National knows Miss Healy as a warm and helpful person. She has given the girls a rich knowledge of what can be done with every type of art medium. She received her B.A. degree from Lake Erie College and continued studying for her master's de- gree at Columbia University. Miss Healy has also studied at the Cleveland School of Art and the Chi- cago Art Institute. One of her chief interests is calli- graphy and she has had her manuscripts displayed at the Cleveland Museum's May Show. Early in her career her talent for combined writing and illustrating created the book Funny Friends. She also compiled the anthology Cat Tales from Many Lands. After coming to National in l944 she combined hefr efforts with her friend, Miss McCaslin, to create a drama department. She has illustrated some books for Miss McCaslin and also wrote and illustrated the popular book on costuming called Dress the Show. Throughout her years at National she has de- voted much of her time and energy to helping us produce outstanding programs. lf a costume can't be found we can always depend on Miss Healy to whip something up. Her beautiful flower arrange- ments for many of our assemblies and special oc- casions make us extra proud of her. With a never-ending gratitude and admiration, the staff of the 1952 National take deep pleasure in dedicating this book to Miss Daty Healy - our friend and teacher. 5

We must hold to the standards of moral and spiritual leadership because only through the understanding and appreciation of such basic values can emotional stability within ourselves be estab- lished and a saner world result. In the classrooms of the nation this is the simple philosophy upon which enlightened teachers build for the future as they direct the learning of children. They see inner stability as the factor most needed as a basis for sound character patterns in children. They nurture children as builders of a maturer civilization for tomorrow - a civilization that will know the meaning of honesty, integrity, and respect for the rights of others. 4 FOREWORD They keep in mind their obligation to children- their obligation to provide children with rich learn- ing experiences upon which the youth of today can build a life morally powerful enough to meet the challenge of the years ahead. As we see teachers playing this important role in the development of children, we are proud to be a part of the world's most honored profession. For, by their sustained effort to aid humanity through the hearts and intellects of children, teachers every- Where will help bring to fruition the ideals of a free world. With courage and determination teachers are proving each day their willingness and ability to build a strong tomorrow from our strongest fibre- the children of today. Dr. K. Richard Iohnson 'K
