Forewor The contribution of Womanhood to the progress and well-being of our nation during the past century has been Woven into the theme of this Volume. The twelve outstanding American Women since 1833 Were chosen in a nation-Wide poll con- ducted by the National Council of Women, and honor will be paid them in the Century of Progress Exposition. Ten of the twelve are presented in the illustration of this book, the others being Dr. Mary Emma Wooley, president of Mt.
