Emtowvi There comes a moment of time in the course of human endeavor when we are met with inalienable truths so forceful, so dramatic, that we wonder why they had escaped our consciousness. But, since the obvious is never quite apparent, it is good to pause and consider, to weigh, to measure, and to mete values. The Chiropractic profession has, without spectacle, moved forward and upward toward the place in the sun it deserves. As it moved, its path has been marked deeply with the irrefutable contributions by the pioneers of the drugless method of healing. There was, and still remains - though greatly dimin- ished - bigotry, intolerance, disbelief, ridicule, and even unjust persecution. Laws and suspicions of other methods of healing wielded such powerful influ- ence that recognition and support seemed virtually hopeless. But Right can never be subjugated by Might, neither will it be compromised, and so, Chiro- practic has continued to progress. Now a new era is upon us, and those of us wh.o will soon enter its vast and limitless expanse can do no less than to seriously ponder the great moral and spiritual obligations we owe ourselves as well as those whom we are to serve. The college is recognized in lllinois by the Board oi Examiners, and also in all other states, territories, and countries which have laws regulating the prac- tice of Chiropractic and drugless healing. During the more than a third of a V century that has passed since its found- ing, the National College has maintained a steady progress in its development as a chiropractic and drugless school. lt has adhered strictly to the teaching and application ot drugless principles in the treatment of disease. lt has established and defended the dictum that lasting health comes only from the structural and natural adjustment of the human organism to its internal and external en- vironment. The National College ot Chiropractic thus has achieved a substantial contribution to the healing art. . THE COLLEGE BUILDINGS ln l906, the institution occupied quarters on Congress street, near Cook County Hospital. Two years later, because ot the need for extra space, the school Was moved to the Flatiron Building on Ashland and Madison Streets. ln l9ll, the first building was bought tor school purposes on Ashland Boulevard near Van Buren Street. Two years later, a double building, adjoining the first, was purchased to accommodate the increasing student body and provide the necessary facilities. ln 1920, the present building oi the Na- tional College, l6-26 North Ashland Boulevard and 1501-l5l3 Warren Boulevard, occupying a halt city block on Ashland Boule- vard, Was acquired. lt is an imposing tive-story stone and brick structure, erected solely for college purposes and embracing ll2,500 square teet. The National College clinic oiters each student the opportunity of interneship in chiropractic and general drugless service. The college provides separate laboratories tor its courses in Bacteriology, Chemistry, Clinical Diagnosis, Dissection, and X-ray. lt also pro- vides a Museum oi Anatomical Specimens.
