ACKNCDWLEDGMEIXITS lt is very difficult to determine the exact value of the individual contribution to any project, for when it is finished, the Whole reflects the cross section of everyone's personality. We Want to consider the Yearbook as that type ot a project. No one person can claim any individual distinction tor the character, nor amount, of the Work done. lt has been a strictly cooperative eliort. Nevertheless, We do Wish to thank each person tor his part in making this l947 Edition of the National College Yearbook such an unexpected success. Also, We cannot close this acknowledgment With- out expressing our pleasure for the endorsement oi our endeavors as evidenced by the Student Body sub- scription, as Well as the very many sent in by the Alumni to Whom the book is dedicated. ln closing, We make this presentation: lf the net results Will mean to you all the pleasures the prepara- tion has meant to us, then the Work and Worry was Well Worth every minute. S Dean 1 BRIEF BICGIQAPI-W Dr. O. S. Sprecher was born May 21, 1905 in Tripp, South Dakota. When he was nine his family moved to Chicago, where he completed his grammar and high school. He enrolled in business college and even- tually decided upon a career in electricity whereupon he accumulated much invaluable experience and knowledge with the RCA. and West- inghouse Corporations. Young Sprecher married in l927 and is the happy father of three girls and a boy. Two of his daughters are follow- ing the Sprecher heritage and are present students here. His father, Dr. S. Sprecher, a practicing physician, and former professor at the National College, was his constant and most personal guide and inspiration. lt was only natural then that he should enroll in 1931 at National College, graduating in l935. Since that time he has been practicing in Edison Park, lllinois, and has remained at his Alma Mater to instruct in Chiropractic Philosophy and Technic, and Physio- Therapy. I-le is logical and practical in his presentations and his tenacity for investigation has added to his prestige. These characteristics, and his broad experience, has proven oi invaluable benefit to his students, patients, and profession. The Sprecher family has made many out- standing contributions to the field oi Chiropractic, and they stand as a tribute to our college. Ever personable and popular, Dr. Sprecher's appointment as Dean of our College met with unanimous approval, both With faculty and student body. We will always remember with great pride our Dean. , Eight . DR. O. S. SPRECHER

Emtowvi There comes a moment of time in the course of human endeavor when we are met with inalienable truths so forceful, so dramatic, that we wonder why they had escaped our consciousness. But, since the obvious is never quite apparent, it is good to pause and consider, to weigh, to measure, and to mete values. The Chiropractic profession has, without spectacle, moved forward and upward toward the place in the sun it deserves. As it moved, its path has been marked deeply with the irrefutable contributions by the pioneers of the drugless method of healing. There was, and still remains - though greatly dimin- ished - bigotry, intolerance, disbelief, ridicule, and even unjust persecution. Laws and suspicions of other methods of healing wielded such powerful influ- ence that recognition and support seemed virtually hopeless. But Right can never be subjugated by Might, neither will it be compromised, and so, Chiro- practic has continued to progress. Now a new era is upon us, and those of us wh.o will soon enter its vast and limitless expanse can do no less than to seriously ponder the great moral and spiritual obligations we owe ourselves as well as those whom we are to serve.
