The hostage crisis, lasting 444 days, strength- ened and unified Americans. The hostage drama im- planted several unforgettable images in our minds: The waiting . . . our thoughts held hostage in a foreign land . . . our helplessness. Our hopes . . . rose and fell to the rhythm of a thousand news bulletins. Our deep sor- row the brave servicemen a tragic rescue attempt. Our faith . . . tied together by yellow ribbons. We the class of l98l dedicate this book of memories to the hostages. Their ordeal tore our heartsg their spirit unified our Iandg their courage made us proud to be Americans. Let us not settle for destruction and depress- ion. Let us not stand for injustice, cruelty and prejudices. Let us change the troubled times.
