— 7 e 1953 Sc'uzfa.fcz'i of NASHVILLE HIGH SCHOOL Nashville, Arkansas Foreword We, the staff, have prepared this, the '53 Scrapper, with one aim--that of helping you relive your high school days in future years when you seek the pleasure of remembering. We have attempted to produce a yearbook of which every N.H.S. student will be proud. Dedication We take great pride in dedicating the Scrapper of 1952-53 to a former teacher and friend of our high school, Mr. W. D. Knight. During his eight years stay in our school he was a great inspiration to the agriculture department. He led many judging teams to victory in state and district contests. Home Economics Building E. T. FOOTBALL '53 The Nashville Scrappers began the 1952 football season with a 31-6 victory over the Ashdown Panthers. After a slow firsjt half the Scrappers got the ball rolling and took their first game in District 7A competition. The Scrappers were detoured next, getting set back by the B7 Texarkana Razorbacks. After a scoreless first quarter the Razorbacks got out of control and the Scrappers got the short end of a 32 to 0 score. The Scrappers defeated the Hot Springs Trojans 32-13. This is the first time in the history of Nashville High School that the Scrappers have ever defeated a Trojan ball club. The Stamps Yellowjackets proved the roadblock in the Scrapper's path. Off on the wrong foot, the Scrappers lost control of the ball on their goal line just before the half to go behind 7-0. That was the difference as each team scored one touchdown after the half for a final score of 14-7. The Prescott Curley Wolves proved no match for the charging Scrappers. The Scrappers took their second conference win 25 to 13 on the basis of a high scoring first half. The DeQueen dynasty of District 7A was ended after a period of 3 years. The Scrappers crushed their arch rival Leopards to shameful defeat by a score of 37-0. continued next page Captain Jack Jewell Captain Harmon Bagley The Hope Bobcats with taste of victory already in their mouth, fell before the mighty Scrappers machine. After leading throughout the game 6 to 0 Hope was the victim of a sparkling pass that gave Nashville victory over the AA Bobcats. The Mena Bearcats were added to the Scrappers victory string, falling to the rolling Scrapper team 33-13. The Scrappers took this district 7A game and avenged a bad beating at Mena's hands last year. The Dierks Outlaws were the next Scrapper victims. The Scrappers were in thorough command throughout the game, coming out on the long end of a 39-12 score. Gurdon was strictly outclassed as they tried to stop the surging Scrappers. The task proved vastly too large as they were pounded to defeat 46-6. This victory chinched the 7A district title. The Scrappers were defeated in the first round of the State A playoffs 25-13, by the Booneville Bearcats. It was a hard fought game and was closer than the score would indicate. Magnolia, providing the Scrappers with a Thanksgiving opponent scored 2 early touchdowns and held a 7 point lead going into the final stages of the game. A distance run eliminated the Panther's chance for a victory by tying it 14 to 14. This game ended a very successful season for the Scrappers who won 8, lost 3 and tied 1.
