SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS The Nashville Hi Scrappers opened their ’47 season at Ra orback Field at Texarkana. It proved to be the most successful season since '42. The keynote for this game was revenge over a 39-0 shellacking the Porkers handed the Scrappers the previous year- T he final score was 12-0 with the Scrappers in possession of the smile. Scrapper of this game was William Shaddox, who intercepted a last period Porkpr aerial and scampered 20 yards to score the touchdown that iced the game. Rain greeted the Scrappers as they trotted onto the field for their clash with the Horatio Lions. The game wound up 33-0 for Nashville. Scrapper of the game was Eugene Anderson, who played a brilliant defensive game. The Guidon Go-Devils were the next victims by a 21-0 trimming. Allan McClure was Scrapper of the game. Next the Scrappers romped over the Prescott Curly Wolves by 27-0. Mage I loneycutt was Scrapper of this game. He turned in a performance seldom equalled by a high school grid player. The Scrappers next lost a game in which they won everything but the score. The Bobcats won 18-6. The game ended with the Scrappers in possession ot the ball on the Hope 2-inch line, where they had previously been seven times throughout the game. (The entire Scrapper squad was the Scrapper of the game). The Magnolia Panthers accomplished the same trick as the Hope Bobcats and by an identical score, 13-6. SPORT HIGHLIGHTS The Scrappers again hit their stride and deleated the De Queen Leopards 58-7. Scrapper of the game John Lyons who intercepted a pass and scored on a 55-yard jaunt. Smackover Buckaroos were handed a 17-7 defeat in the Scrapper homecoming game. Scrapper of the game was Shirley Jones who returned a kick-ofi 85 yards for a score. The Buckaroos had accomplished the same trick on the previous play The Scrapjjcrs next downed Arkadelphia by a 40-7 score. Scrapper ol the game was Tiny Thornton. Next the Scrappers defeated with a 6-0 score Brinkley, the team considered strongest in eastern Arkansas. The keynote of this game was mud, which occurred Irom a continual drizzle. Compliment to the Brinkley team for the cleanest game we played this year. The Scrapper of the game was Levaughn Rhodes for a spectacular offensive game from his tailback position. Our annual Thanksgiving game was a return engagement with Dierks. It proved even more successful than the first game with them with the game ending with a 41 to 0 score. The Scrapper of this game was a firs year man on the squad, John Anderson, who played a brilliant defensive game from his hall-back position.
