This was a very prosperous year for the Future Hornemakers of America. For one week during the smnrner the President and Vice President of the club, Jane DeBute and Darlene Miller attended Leadership Training Camp which was held at Montague, Michigan on Lake Michigan. The girls had a wonderful time and found it very helpful. To get the year off to a good start officers were elected to fill the offices which had not been filled in the spring. One of the highlights of the year was the initiation of the Freshman girls. For the informal initiation the prospective members came to school dressed in ridiculous outfits consisting of boots, burlap dresses and mens' hats garnished with a variety of vegetables. Later the Formal Initiation was held. The members of the club helped the girls in Michigan Center to organize an FHA Club. For the first time in several years two girls from Napoleon were elected as officers of Region Ill. Pat Ientzen was elected as Chairman and Darlene Miller as Secretary. 'I'he Regional Meeting was held at Brooklyn High School. Six girls attended the State Meeting at Grand Rapids. They were Sally Ientzen, Pat Jentzen, Janet Maule, Jane Ross and Ioan Coffey. The club undertook several projects and many activities for the year. The main projects were decorating the school at Christmas time and sponsoring Clean Up Week, which was carried on with the cooperation of the Student Council. Among the activities were, serving hot chocolate and cookies to the basketball team, attending Fun Night at Manchester, Daddy Date Night, to which the girls took their 'daddies' to dinner and afterwards played games, and visiting the Rebecca Home where the girls served old -fashioned cookies and ice cream to the elderly people. The FHA, with Mrs. Zetta Robb as adviser, is doing a wonderful job in serving the family, school and community.

NAPOLEON HIGH SCHOOL BAND During the fall the band participated in many affairs, among them the Michigan State Fair held in Detroit and Band Day at the University of Michigan. The band also presented half time performances at all football games played at home as well as the game played at East Jackson. September 24, the fall concert was held. The band joined the Speech Department and the Chorus during the holidays in a Crhistrnas pro- gram presented by the Student Council. We also played for the December meeting of the P.T.A. In January, the band members enjoyed a trip to Michigan State University to hear the Un1versity's concert band. Our Spring Concert was held April 5th, On May 18th we played in the Holland Tulip Festival where our special drills illustrated MY MERRY OLDSMOBILE, WHEN YOU WORE A TULIP, TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME, and OVER THE WAVES. The theme was based on the television show 'I'he Wide Wide Wor1d , for which Mr. Whitehead did the announcing, Cornmemorating Memorial Day the band assisted in the program at Norvell for the sixteenth year and at Napoleon for the twenty-first year. The band parents with the assistance of the band members established a fund for the purchase of new uniforms. This enterprise was very successful and the band now has new green and white uniforms which they wore for the first time at the Tulip Festival. In the district contest our band received a second rating. 27
