STUDENT COUNCIL 'I'he month of October was an unusually busy month for the mem- bers of the Student Council. On the twelfth, Peggy Leeke, Ken Bostedor, and Pat Ientzen went to Ann Arbor as representatives to the Michigan Conference of Student Councils. Later in October the Stu- dent Council sponsored the Homecoming Festival in which Pat Thomas and Bob Leach were crowned King and Queen. The financial resources were increased by sponsoring a dance and selling ball point pens with Napoleon emblems on them. A well rounded noon hour program was set up. Two new ping pong tables were purchased. Throughout the year four assemblies were financed for the educational entertainment of the students. The first one, held October 3, featured the Ambassadors Quartette. On December 3, The Deep River Quartette put on a performance. The next assembly was held on January 24, when Jack Noble, a cartoonist, entertained the students. On February 27, the Gregorys put on a fine show of musical talent. On the 25th of March a county student council meeting was held at Jackson High School. Napoleon sent two representatives, Fred Wendt and Shirley Upham: Two members, Jane DeBute and Ron Green, were also sent to Grand Rapids for a state Student Council rneeung in April. The main goal of the Student Council has been to increase student participation in the governing of school activities. Penalties are imposed on groups which fail to obtain approval of the colmcil for all their money making projects.

THE BUCCANEER STAFF This year the staff was extended to include many students from the underclassmen in the hope that such a policy might bring better coverage of school and community activities. Editor and Assistant Editor were Bob Leach and Judy DeBute re- spectively. Judy Schenck and Ken Bostedor acted as Business Mana- gers. Janet Bouldrey and Marjorie Basom arranged the faculty page while Peggy Leeke had charge of the pages devoted to the Seniors and their activities. Our treasurer was Virginia Henderson. Alice Furkey scheduled the pictures taken in large part by Mr. Strath- mann of Dunhanna. Responsible for the typing were Ginger Hernry, Arlene Jones, Judy Garwood, Camille Harris, Beverly Aiken, and Mary Lou Rutan. Sports pages were arranged by Duane Brooks. The organizations editors were Dick Tallrnan and Rita Upham. Members of the senior class helped the underclass editors with their pages. Bob Wells worked with Rita Walsh for the eleventh grade, Beverly Aiken with Bob Nall for the tenth grade, Diane Carpenter with Jackie Upham for the ninth grade, and with Tanya Hawley for the eighth grade. Karyn Smith worked on the seventh grade page. Jennie Fouty acted as art editor. The following people submitted materials for the organization pages: Fred Wendt for Student Council, Library, Margaret Boydeng Cheerleaders, Karmen Hawleyg Bible Club, Marlene Windgateg Plrateel Staff, Candyce Williams, FHA, Jane Ross, Band, Joan Schenck, Senior Play, Judy Garwoodg Jr. Play, Candyce Williams. Though the price per book to student is 52.50, the actual cost is almost 35.00.
