Janice Thurman, a senior, has been a cheerleader for four years, Nancy Weth- erby, another senior, for two years, Jackie Scoville, a jun- ior, for three years and Carolyn Miller, a junior, for one year. Carolyn is also captain of the squad. The squad made new outfits this year, consisting of a green corduroy weskit ani skirt, with White lining, a white icngsleeved blouse, gre white shoes. They sold for the outfits. The girls attended last fall. The team, led by Ray Maule running in fourth year of cross-country competition, consisted of additional members: Duane Lantis, 3rd year, Herb Howard year, Gerald Brown, 2nd year, Dick Lingard, 3rd year, ard Meeks, 3rd year and newcomer John Lantis. Throughout year this team twice defeated Adrian High School, once each Jackson High Reserves and Ann Arbor High Reserves, and VV. S twice defeated by State Champ Spring Arbor. The team placed third in the Hastings Invitional Meet, third in the Albion College Invitational Meet, and third in the State Meet, each time losing to State Champion Spring Arbor and runner-up Lansing Everett. The award for the most improvement shown throughout the year would have to be divided between the Lantis brothers. The most notable achievement by one individual during the year was Duane Lantis running at our Wolf Lake course in the third fastest time ever turned in by a Napoleon boy. is p had team Although many teams have won more trophies, this team robably one of the strongest Napoleon has produced. This has been the first year.of cheerleading for each of them. Peggy Leeke is the freshman and Donna Knapp, Margaret Mahrle and Sharon Welch are the sophomores. For football they wore white sweaters, green corduroy slacks, green and white socks, and white shoes. For basketball they dressed in white sweaters, white blouses, green and white socks, green corduroy skirts, green tights and white shoes. .54.
