This is quite an accomplishment when you stop to think that we lost six of our players leaving only two returning with any experience. This year's hopefuls include sophomores Mike Fish, Jack God- frey, Robert Walker, and Jim Gormley and freshmen Jack Leath and Ken Bostedor. Considering that about half of the teams the Napoleon reserves will meet are composed partly of Juniors and Se- niors they will have a tough year ahead of them. All in all they will be out to keep up the previous year's good record. ...49..

In our 2nd year in the Jackson County Football race, and our 3rd at the game of football, we tied with Grass Lake for a 3rd place finish. Although losing the core of our '52 '53 squad, which had tied for 3rd place in the county and along with which went most of our size, we managed,a M-L sea son record. Such former standouts as Ken Henning, Bob Burn- ham, Harold Burk, Bob Ahrens, Jerry Hartley, Kim Ritter, Ed Whitehead, Ed Hess, Ken Harris, and Herb Flint were sorely missed. Co-captains were elected at the beginning of the season to represent the squad--2 hard working senior boys, Duane Cowgill and Dean Fowler, were so honored. We started the season with a bang, trimming rival Brook lyn 18-6. Illness and injuries plagued us in our next en- counter with the eventual co-champ, Michigan Center, and we lost 27-6. Parma deserved their lh-7 win against us, as we evidently were thinking of swimming on that hot, dry, 80 de- gree November afternoon. We were primed for Vandercook, and pumped 18 points down them the lst half, while holding them from our goaline, and continued to cap the contest 18-13 It was strictly no-ballgame against Springport, who was missing several of its supposed stars due to disciplinary measures,. and we won as we pleased 32-O, with everyone en- tering the game. At Concord, we won everything but the final point tabulation, ran all over the field, but simply were unable to get the ball across the goal line, and lost 12-7. We pounded East Jackson, one of the co-champs, 32- 13. It was a season in itself--enough said, however. We had clinched at least a 3rd place tie, could rise no higher, igdowere down for the.season final at Grass Lake, and lost We were honored at the conclusion of the season by hav- ing one of our co-captains, Duane Cowgill, honored by being selected on the all-county team for the 2nd year in a row. In addition, the following boys were given honorable men- tion: Harvey Henning, Dale Heselschwerdt, and Arlen Burk. To sum it all up, we had an enjoyable and successful season from every angle, and will sorely miss the following group of boys, several of whom we believe deserved at least an honorable mention but were slighted, BUT, are eagerly looking forward to next years competition. Graduating Seniors--Byron Antcliff, Dale Heselschwerdt, Dean Fowler, Jack Dean, Duane Cowgil, Jim McGonegal and Dick Lashley. rg 2 v- ..50..
