Having graduated our entire nfirst fiveu boys, and in fact, our first seven counting one on age, we're in the pro- cess of rebuilding. We've rebuilt enough at this setting, to be contenders for that second position in the county race. Actually, the boys playing this years ball games were competing in scrimmages and practice-sessions against one of the finest class UCn teams in the state and in Napoleon bas- ketball history, so, the rebuilding job wasn't as big as one might think. Some of those basketball skills were bound to rub eff on a few of the boys. Competition on the club has been 'keener than keengn with very little difference in abi- lity represented in the first thirteen boys of a sixteen man squad. We definitely lacked a big boy, our height being but six one. Running up against eight of eleven clubs thus far, employing one or two men six three or better, proved to be quite a problem at times. This department looks better for our future, with some heighth, desire and determination com- ina.UP. At the moment we stand ten of sixteen overall, and eight-two in county competition--good enough for a second place rating in both departments for the county. In county competition, we were soundly tromped by the county champion East Jackson, and lost to Grass Lake in a toss-up by a point We're anxiously awaiting the tournaments and an opportunity to avenge the twenty-one and twenty-two point defeats at the hands of East Jackson. We have a club capable of winning any ball game! Chief weaknesses have been defense and rebounding, with a touch of laziness here and there. Boys lost through graduation and who will be sorely missed next season follow: . Antcliff, Byron Cowgill, Duane Dean, ack cFowler. Dean Heselschwerdt, Dale asizffai will . , Xlf V X .-4-7-

Seated left to right: Dick Ray, Nelson Brown, Ronnie Warner Harvey James, Duane Brooks, Jack Leath, Jim Cornell, Keith Reed, Second Row left to right: Keith Harris, Joe Fisch- meister, Delbert Parkinson, Kenneth Bostedor, Robert Walker, Douglas Reed, Michael Fish, Paul Gormley, Larry Richardson, Bob Leach, Harvey Kimball, Danny Ray, Melvin Pruden, Mr. Goodrich. 2564025 Living up to last year's reserve record is the main objective of this year's reserve team. This is quite an accomplishment when you stop to think that we lost six of our players leaving only two returning with any experience. This year's hopefuls include sophomores Mike Fish, Jack God- frey, Robert Walker, and Jim Gormley and freshmen Jack Leath and Ken Bostedor. Considering that about half of the teams the Napoleon reserves will meet are composed partly of Juniors and Se- niors they will have a tough year ahead of them. All in all they will be out to keep up the previous year's good record. ...49..
