ARNOLD R CARLSON Arnold R Carlson attended Glendale Jumor College of Ca11f0l'1'11a after h1s graduatlon from Napavme hlgh school He was an outstandxng trackman and a member of the lettermans assoclatxon there also a member of Charros fratermty In January 1942 he Jomed the Army Arr force and rece1ved baslc trauung at Hxghey Fxeld Chandler Arxzona Thunderblrd Fxeld Glendale Arlzona and Gardner F1eld Taft C811f0l'I11a He recelved advanced trammg at Stockton F1eld Stockton Cahforma where he graduated and recelved h1s wmgs July 26 1942 He had f1nal trammg 1n bombers at Alamagordo New Mex1co Army Axr Base Topeka Kansas and Lacklourne A1r Base Columbus Ohlo In November 1942 he left for England H1s squadron was the flrst Amerxcan Group to go 1nto Germany proper On hxs flrst fllght February 16 1943 hxs bomber was shot down over enemy terrxtory and most of the crew were kllled Lt Kyllns the navlgator adv1sed the famlly later that Arnold as co pxlot kept the plane ln the a1r untxl flre broke out and they had to ball out When they loose Lt Kylms escaped enemy terrxtory Arnold went down w1th the plane The A1r Medal and the Purple Heart were recelved by h1s farmly He IS burred ln St James Amerxcan Cemetery 1n France VICTOR H MCGEE Victor H McGee was lnducted mto the army March 15 1943 He recelved hls basxc tramlng at Camp White Medford Oregon w1th the 70th Quartermasters Company Later he transferred to Camp Ada1r Corvallls Oregon Durlng the summer months he was on maneuvers around Bend and Eugene He was trans ferred to the mfantry March 1 1944 at Fort Ord Callforma He arr1ved 1n New Caledonla the last of May or June fu'st to Jom the casualty company He was moved later to a nearby camp to serve w1th the motor pool On October 2 he was placed ln the mfantry and stat1oned near the Phllxppmes On December 20 Whlle servmg on Leyte he was h1t by a bullet m the left leg below the h1p The hospxtal shlo on whxch he was placed December 24 reached Manus January 4 and arr1ved at Guadalcanal January 11 Here the bullet was re moved January 19 a month after the mjury On February 17 he sh1pped out agaln and arr1ved at Leyte March 4 He fought on Ie Sh1ma and later on Ok1nawa He was servlng as a battle re placement 1n the 77th D1v1s1on Statue of Llberty surv1vors of Guam when he was killed did, this Lt, Kylins' chute caught on the plane and Arnold stopped to shove him
